A note for all the left sided pain people!

Hey everyone, some of you remember me no doubt, I posted here on and off for 2 years. Left sided abdominal pain under the last rib, like many other people. After 2 years I started getting pain in the LEFT shoulder a lot.

Well, I had my gallbladder out a month ago. They finally found it wasn't functioning well (19%) and pulled it. They also did exploratory inspection of the left side while they were in there and everything looked OK. Gallbladder failure didn't show up at all until I had a double hidascan test. They couldn't find anything wrong anywhere until then, and I had most tests you can imagine performed. I tried every supplement I could find too.

Here's the result - pain is almost completely relieved after 1 month. I still get a little pressure when the intestines are full of gas or something, but it's so much better. It can take a year for the body to adjust (per my DR), so I'm very excited about this so far. Some encouragement for those of you who don't know what it is - that could VERY VERY likely be the gallbladder and referred pain to the wrong side. Have that test run. You never know.

2 years of suffering, OVER! Woo hoo! God bless you all as He has blessed me!

I'm confused. So, was the problem your gall bladder?

I'm so happy that you're doing much better!

Re: A note for all the left sided pain people!

The gallbladder causes referred pain on the left side. Referred pain is pain that is felt in a place distant from the cause of the pain. Pain patterns are well enough known to be charted and used by doctors to aid in diagnosis. Did you know that the liver can refer pain to the right shoulder?

Re: A note for all the left sided pain people!

Well put, Plymouth. I had very very little right sided pain, it was all on the left side, from the top to the bottom of the rib cage, and up through my LEFT shoulder and into the arm. Since it was so odd, and I KNOW there are others in my situation, I thought I'd share a little hope!

Every doctor thought it was heart-related at first, then something with GERD or a hernia or something. Turns out it was referred pain from the gallbladder. It all depends on your body and how it's wired up.
