I had gallbladder removed several years ago. It has been 4 years since having endoscopy and colonoscopy. Diagnosed with ulcers, reflux, IBS and divertriculitis (sp?). For the past month I have had intense pains at the base of breastbone. Especially minutes after eating or while eating. Have had many sleepless nights from be awoken with the pain. Have pains in stomach all day whether eat or not. Have always had problems with the IBS, so would not much notice increase in diareha or cramps there. This is higher in my stomach. Feel horrible all the time. Now am getting tired from the pain. Yet, I cannot get into see the GI doc until 8/25. Geez, then will have to wait even longer if he decides need endoscopy again. This is really getting to me. I call every day to see if they have cancellation. Nothing. Husband does not really understand just how much pain this all causes.
It feels starts out light and grows to be very painful. Not a stabbing pain but more like a drill. Then it pain will lessen again. It starts just after I start eating and will last for a few minutes or hours. I will continue with pains most of the day but the intesity will vary. The times I have woken at night the pain will grow and then slack up and do it again. Almost like labor only up really high.
I was checked several years ago with ulcers were first found. It was negative. Then had another endoscopy and found stomach lining was raw. But, that was at the time determined my problem was gall bladder. Went to the GI doc yesterday. He has given me Protonix and Carafate. Said if not better in a week to call and he would do endoscopy again. Hope this does it. I am GAINING weight. If my stomach is empty if hurts bad. If I eat, I end up nauseated....
Deb daniel what tests did they do to determine the first time that you had ulcers?Did they say what caused the ulcers? There are 2 kinds of ulcers one is caused by h,pylori infection and the other nsaids.Did he indicate which one caused your ulcers. If your stomach is raw something is causing it.When they discovered i had an h.pylori infection my stomach and esophagus were both slightly inflamed.Ive been taking ppi's for years. What exactly are your symptoms?
I have had 2 endoscopies in the past 4 years. The first time found the ulcers. I had been on meds for a while from dentist. Determined that this caused the ulcers. It was negative for hpylori (sp?) bacteria. I have been very careful about meds since then. I am alergic to aspirin, advil, etc., so it has not been a problem to avoid them. I have been taking the protonix everyday since Monday. No more indigestion. But I am still very nauseated and stomach hurts.
