Hello; I'll try to make this as brief as possible and I appreciate your reading all of this. I've always had some sort of digestive problem since I was very young; it used to be constipation and stomach pains when I was a child and as I got older, developed into other symptoms. I get nauseous a lot and my stomach always seems to be very bloated. I had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy about 7-8 years ago (I was about 30 at the time), which showed nothing and the dr. said it was most likely "irritable bowel syndrome." Every once in a while I would get sudden attacks of severe pain followed by diarrhea, which would last on and off for hours sometimes, along with the constipation, so I believe his diagnosis was probably correct. I also get a lot of gas and belching (isn't that attractive?)..sometimes I have to stop in the middle of a meal to wait for a burp so I can continue eating. Then about 3 years ago I had a bout of severe pain in my lower abdomen. I went to my GP and he did blood work and said my liver enzymes were elevated and some other things I can't remember and admitted me to the hospital because he thought I was having a gall bladder attack. Well, apparently I wasn't having a gall bladder attack, but my liver was abnormal and my intestines were "inflamed." They kept me in the hospital for about 4 days and I was on a liquid diet. They never really told me what the cause was and I went home, baffled, but better. The newest symptom started about a year ago...sudden attacks of pain centered at my breastbone, or upper abdomen, sometimes radiating to my back and even my jaw and shoulder. I thought I was having a heart attack, it was so severe and so bad (but my heart is fine). It passed after about an hour and it's happened about 5 times since then. Today was the worst; it was accompanied by terrible heartburn and burning from my upper abdomen to my esophagus. Sometimes I feel like I have a lump in my throat, like it's hard to swallow. The pain in my ab and back is sudden and terrible. Can anyone relate to any of this? I don't want my doctor to think I'm crazy with so many wierd symptoms...but this latest one with the front/back pain is really freaking me out. I would appreciate any help; thanks.
Have you stuck with the same doctor for a long time? If so, you need to change doctors, some are just better at finding things than others. Get yourself an excellent GI specialist, and probably another endoscopy and colonoscopy would be good. There's something going on there, that's for sure, and don't let docotors tell you are fine when your body is clearly saying otherwise. Lots of illnesses such as Celiac Disease, among others, are hard to find but could match your symptoms. Good luck!
