Burning in stomach when stomach empty of food. - Digestive Disorders Message Board

I have a condition in which my stomach burns when it is empty. This is not minor burning, but feels like there is a match in there burning the lining of the stomach. The only thing that quells my stomach is to eat something. Has anyone had this affliction? Let me know and offer some advice, if you have any. Thanks!

Your symptoms of burning that is relieved by eating sounds like that of an ulcer.

You probably need to be checked out by a Doctor for H.pylori infection that causes 85 % of peptic ulcers.

Major burning that is temporarily relieved with food could be an ulcer and needs to be checked out. Also, if antacids give temp relief, that is another sign of possible ulcer. When I had mine, food would hlp some but then the pain would get really bad because a had an ulcer in my duodenum and when food passed through the stomach and into the duodenum, the acid would hit the ulcer and cause intense pain. Go get checked out.

I just got diagnosed with erosive esophagitis (erosions on lining of esophagus) caused by acid reflux. Before I started Nexium, I had extreme pain in stomach (burning/aching) whenever I was hungry. I found myself eating to alleviate the pain, however, my acid reflux would flare up after eating. It was a vicious cycle. I had an endoscopy to diagnose my problem and my stomach was fine--I was expecting an ulcer due to the pain when my stomach was empty. So, apparently, there are numerous causes of this pain. You may want to go see a specialist to get the right medication. I feel much better now that my pain is gone.

Do you find that you want to drink a lot of milk? this is another symptom that could indicate an ulcer.

I would like to say that not all people with ulcers also have H.pylori.

You really need to see a doctor as this as someone else has already said could mean many things. They would probably first try to control the pain with medication, they may even wish to perform an endoscopy or to carry out a barium x-ray.

Peptic ulcers can be found anywhere from the top of the oesophagus down to the stomach.
