Hi,
new to board and would like to ask a question. My Doctor has diagnosed acid reflux and has done blood test for hp bacteria, still waiting on results. . Although Doc seems certain, I have been unwell for 6mths with various symptoms and I can't believe that 'simple' acid reflux could make me feel so bad. Please help

Symptoms are pretty varied. It all started in March this year when I had pains in my chest. Had ecg blood tests etc and doc put it down to a virus, then about a month ago started to get ache in middle of back and top of stomach, burping all the time, stomach felt really hot at times. No sharp pains but just uncomfortable. Had a really bad sore throat for three days and was coughing a lot for no apparent reason. Felt like I had a lump in my throat which started about an hour after I got up in the morning. Some days it went away altogether. Started on Nexium and everything quitened down, had a really good 10 days with no symptoms felt normal for the first time in months. It seems to have started up again in the last week. Been on Nexium for about 3wks should it take a while to settle down. We are both on a low fat diet after my partners heart attack last October and have lost weight. I was feeling fantastic and then this happened!! Doc has put some down to stress and anxiety, we had a bad car accident last year too and he thinks it all got a bit too much for me. Anyone else put their problems down to stress or is this a myth
Stress is tatally a contributing factor to digestive and bowel problems as well as money other health related problems, I was told with all of my health issues I should find another line of work, I was praeparing to work for a medical examiner doing forensics, and planed to finish a PA, I have a degree in criminal justice and one in law enforcement with a concentration in forensics, so it's not a myth stress is a monster on our system.
Hi there hortibabe. Yes, your symptoms do sound like GERD. If Nexium isn't working, your doctor may want to switch you to something else. It doesn't work for everybody. You've also had a lot of stress in your life, car accident, etc., and stress will definitely increase GERD symptoms.
Hi, my husband was sick for over 2 yrs before we found out it was acid reflux. At one point docs thought he had a level 3 lung cancer, went through biopsy and everything. Acid reflux has many symptoms, all relating to other diseases. It was a tough 2 yrs, but a simple pill has corrected almost everything.
