Hi everyone: I've been taking Bextra for arthritis pain and it upsets my stomach. I asked my Dr. if taking Imodium would help and he suggested otc Zantac instead. Does that sound right? I don't need it for heartburn, but for IBS symptoms. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks.
You might try Pepto Bismol instead of Imodium. Isn
t that for diahrea. Maalax might help. I don't think Zantac is what you are looking for. You need something to coat the stomach. Will take longer to disolve and get in blood stream though
Thanks Canyondweller: I don't think that Zantac is what I need either. I agree with you that I need to coat my stomach. We have some liquid antacid at home and I'm going to try that tomorrow. I've already cut the dose of Bextra in 1/2 (10) mgs. I have to find something to soothe my stomach or I'll have to give up the Bextra and have more arthritis pain to deal with. Thanks again. BTW, we love San Francisco. Lucky you. Sue
Hi there,
I'm taking Bextra for chronic inflammation in my feet and ankles. 20 MG twice a day. One thing that I found helpful is never to take it on an empty stomach. I'm in pain as soon as I wake up, but I always wait until after breakfast to take this medication. Also, I had to start out only taking 20 MG once a day because it upset my stomach too much, then I worked up to twice a day. Hope Bextra works out for you, I've been on Celebrex for the same problem and that medicine is REALLY bad in terms of causing stomach upset. Bextra looks very tame by comparison.
