Post Anyone in their 30's have a small colon polyp?

I had a colonoscopy done for some stomach pain...the dr called me a few days later and said for my age she was shocked to find a small polyp (it was benign)...I am 35 yrs old. Now, this kind of has me freaked out. She is going to do another one in about a year.

Is it really that rare, or is it just that most younger people don't get colonoscopies, so no one would know?

I had a polyp removed at age 49. Most people don't have colonoscopies as young as you are unless they have a problem or colon cancer runs in the family.
I had a follow up a year later and another three years later. I'm due for another one this year.

I am 35 and after my second colonoscopy this year, the doctor found a few benign polyps. The first time he didn't see any cause I had so much inflammation from my colitis. I don't have to have anoyther colonoscopy till 2010. He didn't seem too overly concerned about them. He did remove them all though.

To lovemythreeguys2002

What sort of stomach pain did you have? Has it gone now that you have had the polyp removed? My brother is recovering from colon cancer and he is 45..although it is rare to find this sort of cancer in younger people, it does happen..

Hi,
I had my first colonoscopy two years ago at the age of 39, they found 6 polyps and one was precancerous so I feel very blessed that I went in when I did I was really freaked out too...if I hadn't have been so pushy my doctor would not have ordered the test and by the time I was supposed to have my first one I would have had full blown cancer...not a good thing.
I don't think anyone at any age should ignore bowels changes and I think that doctors are finally realizing that people need to be screened much earlier than they first thought.
Take care,
Jodi
