Post Help - NO muscle movement in the esophogus

HELP - My brother in law was taken to the hospital for the umpteenth time with sever chest pains. The doctors ran one test twice because they didn't believe the results the first time. He has absolutly no muscle movement in the esophogus and with the valve to his stomac not functioning the acids are burning thru his esophagus and next is his internal organs. The doctors told him and my sister there wasn't much they could do about it. My sister is despirate and I am heart broken as well as furious. How can doctors (both civilian and military, and I won't even get started on the Gulf War Syndrome side of this) have missed this before it got to such catastrophic proportions. He is on first name basis with most of the Emergency room personal at the hospital. He has full sets of pictures of his intire digestive system, After months of Doctors probing and testing they find this when it is killing him, and there is nothing they can do except maybe close off his stomac and insert a feeding tube. Does anyone know anything about this and where can I get more information other than the tipical info that you see in the television ads for acid reflux.

I have experienced some weakness in my swallowing muscles and seem to be benefiting from taking the amino acid lysine. After a week and a half I can tell a definite difference in the strength of the contractions.
