Hi I am in desperate need of any advice anyone can give me for my wife as she is besides herself at this point. For the past year she has complained that after she eats she gets what feels like a tightnening around her chest she also says sometimes it feels like it is hard to breathe. Other times like air is trapped or a swollen throat and it hurts to swallow as the water or food is going down. She was diagnosed in August with gastroparesis but her dr said that would not cause her symptoms. all her other tests (barium swallow, endoscopy, esophogeal manometry(sp?), were all negative). SHe is afraid to eat and has dropped over 20 pounds, FInally this past week it got so bad she was put into the hospital and a 24 hour ph probe test was done but showed nothing. The frustrating part for her was that because she had not eating much of anything for about a week except soft foods that when the test was done she could only eat eggs or similar things that were not hard for her. the dr said nothing showed up and that it must be IBS and would put her on levsin or bentyl. My wife is a calm rational person but this is driving her crazy as this definitly occurs after she eats and last several hours. Prilosec and acid releivers have not helped. We thought for sure it was some sort of spasm but since the tests came back negative we are at a loss. She feel sher dr. is giving up on her and she wished the ph probe could have been left in longer so that it would was in place when the pain would start but it was only left in for two meals. Could she still have a esophageal spasm and the tests still be negative. The only thing a little off was her blood work which showed her thyroid a little high and her throat a little swollen. ANy suggestions or thoughts of what to do would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
