I was wondering. Has anyone here ever tried doxepin? It is an antidepressant but is supposed to help with GI pain, gastritis, motility, etc? If not, has anyone used an antidepressant to help with GI pain at all? Seems like while I was on Pamelor, I didn't have any GI pain. Then when I came off of it, it all came back again.
Hi Nal...
I'm all for anything that keeps me out of pain and isn't habit forming. Perhaps ask your GI to give you a trial prescription just to see?

I don't remember the name of the medicine I'm on but the doctor told me it is normally used for anxiety, depression, etc. but that it would help my IBS. The IBS started shortly after having my gallbladder removed.
Thanks. I would love to know the name of your medication if you find out. Im on Pamelor right now-helps a little. Someone else has mentioned Librax and another one (I cant remember the name but it starts with a D).
My GI doc at one time had me taking amitryptline(elavil) for my digestive problems. It's an anti-depressant that was suppose to increase my appetite and help with abdominal cramps. I have also taken Librax, which is a benzodiazepine and antispasmotic combination used to help with abdominal cramps. I've also taken Bentyl which is a combo of an antispasmotic and phenobarbitol. Both are supposed to help with cramps and abdominal pain, usually in someone with irritable bowel syndrome. Neither the librax or the bentyl have helped my pain. My doc believes I have Crohn's disease, and I am going for a small bowel capsule endoscopy to see for sure.
Hope my info may have helped you...I think I have taken every drug imaginable for my bowel issues.
