Red face Chronic Hemorroids and Cramps

Hello everyone!

I have a problem that I'm rather puzzled about. Okay, I was diagnosed with internal and external hemmoroids around November. They also did a colonoscopy because I was having severe pain after having a bowel movement. Nothing was found when they did the colonoscopy besides the internal hemmoroids.

Anyway, my doctor told me to just not ever strain when I use the restroom and to use the preparation H Suppositories when needed. Well, I haven't been straining, but still have to use the suppositories all of the time. It hurts so bad. I have one hemmoroid that extends all the way from my rectum almost to the edge of my vaginal opening.

Another thing that confuses me is that when the hemmoroids are at their worst, I have severe cramps (only after after a bowel movement). Even if my stools are completely normal, after I go to the bathroom, my abdomen hurts. My doctor told me there was no way that hemmoroids can cause cramps and told me to get more fiber. I've been using benefiber for several weeks now. Still no improvement. And I swear I only get the cramps and pains after having a bm...and when my hemmoroids are worse.

Has anyone else experienced this? What in the world can be causing this? Can hemmoroids in fact cause cramps??

Thanks,
Vers

Re: Chronic Hemorroids and Cramps

Hi V, I've dealt with hemmoroids for many years also, finally had my 3 internal ones removed last year. it wasn't fun for a few weeks but I got through it just fine. i have been very happy since then.

Yes, i too always had bad lower abdomen cramps when they would flare up, even while using the prep h and citricel every day. my gp said it went along with having hemmoroids, go figure huh, depends onthe doc i guess.
I found relief with a heating pad most nights. i tend to have more problems with diarherra(sp?) so i would also take imodiam which seemed to help the cramping.

sad thing is i just had a colonoscopy yesterday and they found another internal hemmoroid. I was kind of groggy after procedure so didn't question gi doc about it, but am having endoscopy in 2 weks and plan on finding more info about the size and why it came back so sooon. I am not a happy camper.

in a brochure they sent home with me about hemmoroids is a paragraph about a new procedure they do in their office called IRC; infrared coagulation for internal hems. i might look into that before it gets too large.but then again, it will have to wait because i'm having gallbladder removed on the 6th o march. when it rains it pours huh!

but back to the cramps, try a heating pad or a hot bath with epson salts and alcohol. that might help a little. hope you feel better soon.

Re: Chronic Hemorroids and Cramps

Thanks for the response. I too have diarrhea more often than the usual constipation found with hemmoroids. I had my gallbladder taken out two years ago, it's amazing how much better you'll feel when it's out ;3

Anyway, thanks again. I don't feel so alone now knowing that someone else is dealing with the same thing...I just thought I was wierd..lol

Peace,
-Vers

Re: Chronic Hemorroids and Cramps

I know what you mean. I've been reading everything i can on board concerning gall bladder trying to feel that i'm doing the right thing having surgery. it sure helps to hear what others are dealing with and if it gels with what you're going through.

I don't have stones, i just go through periods of r and l abdominal pain, nausea and terrible fatique. i had all the tests also which showed nothing until i had a hidda scan, gall bladder functioning at 19%. so i guess out it comes. I am relly hoping this will be the answer, i just always feel slightly ill and my eyes look terrible, kind of yellowish, but doc says no jaundice.

I've been watching my diet very carefully the last month and have had no major attacks, just don't feel well. so in 2 weeks will have endoscopy done to make sure there is no problems there and then 2 more weeks, gall bladder surgery. I am a bit nervous but still hoping for the best so will be glad to get it done.

At 59 i still got a lot of living to do, lol . busy chasing grandkids and loving it.

take care Verse, star

Re: Chronic Hemorroids and Cramps

Hehe,

hello Stars. I'm am actually only 20, got my gallbladder taken out at 18!! I had a congenital defect though. My gallbladder was functioning around 9% on my scan. When they were doing the test, my gallbladder swelled up to the size of a baseball..much larger than normal. And I feel so much better without it!!

As far as the surgery went, I had few problems. I mean, I was obviously sore coming out of the surgery, but it was less pain than the actual gallbladder problems. If you have the laprascopic procedure, you'll be back to regular activities in about a week. I actually went for a short walk the same day as my surgery . If you have the regular, open surgery, you'll have a longer healing time, but you'll feel so much better it won't even matter. :3

Keep us updated. I'd love to follow you through this and hear how things go.

-Vers
