Trazadone

Has anyone else taken Trazadone??. I've posted a lot of messages on the acid reflux and digestive disorders board with my problems. So the long and short of it cardiologist could find nothing wrong, so I went to gastro doctor.

Gastro doctor did the endoscope, etc., that showed I have the H Pylori infection in the stomach. Ordered antibiotics for that. But I continue to have chest pains on the left no matter what I eat (possibly could be esophagus, haven't had that test yet). Anyway I wondered if anyone else is being treated with Trazadone for acid reflux, or the chest pains, etc.

Everytime I eat anything about 2 hours later I get pain on the left. I'm scared to eat anything. He is going to try Trazadone.

Re: Trazadone

I took Trazadone for a year, it was supposed to help me sleep, which it did, but after a year I was getting horrible headaches, so I stopped taking it and the headaches went away. That medication is not for acid reflux, not sure why it has been prescribed for you. The pain sounds a bit like esophageal spasms, they can be prety bad and can only be described like you might think you are having a heart attack.

Re: Trazadone

Ladybiker,

Trazadone is an anti-depressant drug but not very good for that -- it has been given to my wife to help her sleep.

Having a H pylori infection means you have ulcers. The treatment like you had is to take antibiotics and a stomach acid reducer like a Proton Pump Inhitor like Prilosec or Privacid or other type.

The antibiotics used to treat ulcers are very strong and frequently cause people to have gastritis-- inflammation of the stomach lining. And, the treatment for gastritis is to take a Proton Pump Inhibitor to reduce stomach acid until the inflammation get better.
It sounds like you still have ulcers or gastritis.
Some times the antibiotics are not strong enough or taken long enough to kill the H pylori bacteria that causes ulcers.

Have you had tests to make sure your stomach is free from ulcers and OK?

Re: Trazadone

That's why I was wondering, why he prescribed Trazadone for me. I had the endoscope that indicated H Pylori infection, and was treated with antibiotics, but the chest pain has never gone away -- just getting worse. I can't eat anything. I don't want to go back to cardiologist, as she did all the tests, and last time I went in, she said it was not my heart. So I'm trying to call my gastro doctor's office to see if I can get another appt and discuss this with him. I believe - also - it is esophagal spasms, and I'm sure there must be a medication for that? Thank you all for your replies.

Re: Trazadone

Spasms and cramping are usually caused by lack of magnesium.
A very good homeopathic remedy to use is Magnesia Phos -- taken as needed. It is available at health food stores and has no side-effects.

If that does help then you may just need a Calcium/Magnesium supplement along with vitamin D for absorption-- lng term.

That is easy to try -- but I really think that your stomach has not cleared up -- it could also be a hiatal hernia that occurs where your esophagus and stomach are connected?

I suggest that you read some of the Sticky Thread at the top of this page "GERD Sufferers --I Feel Good let me tell you why" started by blupumkin. It is about him suffering for 9 years with a hiatal hernia and was cure using magnesium and digestive enzymes..
