| Re: Bovine Bile for Bile Salt Diarrhea after GB removal
Julie,
Welcome to Healthboards!!
Diarrhea after GB surgery usually indicates that your liver is putting out too much bile salts and is now not being controlled by your gallbladder since surgery.
It happens to about 5% of people that have GB surgery.
The treatment to reduce the bile salt diarrhea is to take a medication that absorbs the bile salts before it receaches the colon. If it gets to your colon --w/o being re-absorbed by your small intestines -- you will get diarrhea.
The med is Questran in a powder form -- it is a pres****tion drug that you have to get from your Doctor.
Look up -- bile salt diarrhea--
I wish you well--Harry
