Hi Guys

I've finally been diagnosed with chronic gastritis after months of nausea, bad stomach pains and vomiting. After an endoscope and colonoscopy my gastro told me my stomach was very inflamed which was unusual for someone aged 23. They told me to just continue with acid blockers and anti-emetic tablets and come back for an endoscopy every couple of months to make sure an ulcer wasn't developing. They've also told me I'm high risk for getting a stomach ulcer because I have an anxiety disorder and the state of my stomach at the moment. I've read a lot about gastritis and this bacteria helicobacter pylori keeps cropping up. They took biopsies during the endoscopy, do you think the biopsies would have shown up h.pylori if it was there? And if a diagnosis of gastritis means h.pylori is there anyway, why aren't they treating me for it? Can anyone help?

Yes, H. Pylori can be detected through a biopsy. I had an endoscopy with biopsy and I have chronic gastritis as well (and at the time I was only 25). My biopsy was negative for H. Pylori. I wasn't satisfied with the results because they only took 1 biopsy so I had the breath test done as well--also negative. If you don't hear anything back, then give the dr. a call to find out the results. My dr. tends to be "lazy" when it comes to calling back so I usually wait a week then call the office and find out the results. If it is positive for H. Pylori then you need medication to get rid of it.

My son was also just diagnosed with chronic gastritis and slow gastric emptying. He is 10. They started him on nexium in the morning and reglan 3 x a day. I dont think age has much to do with it. There is strong family history on my husbands side of "stomach problems". I have seen a little improvement with him on these new meds.
