About 6 months ago I was on antibiotics. Finished them and a week later, my whole family, including myself, got horribly sick with a stomach bug. Sounds awful, but mucus stool, the whole bit. I got it the worst. After 2 weeks of diarrhea, I began having heart palpitations and anxiety issues. Finally, someone suggested no dairy and probiotics. Although they've helped calm the symptoms, I cannot go off the probiotics (diarrhea start again) and I know that foods other than dairy are effecting me. I haven't narrowed it yet, but my heart races, blood pressure goes up, heart palpitates, muscles spasms at night and massive digestive turbulence. Feels HORRIBLE. Good news is my energy and nutrition seem fine so far, other than the stress.
I've only seen my regular doc and she want to do heart monitoring and adrenal testing, but what I"ve read so far says possible Leaky Gut. I don't want to chase my tail for the next few years, and since I never had ANY symptoms before, I just want to get back to normal. Do I have temporary food sensitivities due to Leaky Gut, and if so, how do heal this gut of mine? Any other ideas of what's wrong? Help!
Have you ever had gallbladder problems, been tested for them?
Here's my story. In 2005, I had two panic attacks at work, so strong that I had an EKG done. In early 2006 I developed a gnawing sensation in my stomach and then diarrhea. It was followed by heart palpitations so strong that they woke me up on two different occasions. I also developed nausea and had a lot of stomach/abdominal noise and discomfort at night. Prilosec seemed to calm the diarrhea. I had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT, MRI's, etc, was sent to an endocrinologist. As I was seeing all these specialists, I began noticing that my pulse and blood pressure which had been rock steady for years was fluctuating all over the place.
Then I started developing pain under the ribs, in the back and in the right shoulder all classic signs for gallbladder problems. An ultrasound test showed a small polyp in the gallbladder and I failed the HIDA scan at 23%. Since then I have been treated with a Ursodiol and my symptoms have greatly diminished.
Having gone through all this I tend to focus on the gallbladder when I hear similar symptoms, of course there may be other diagnoses for your situation. Just keep pushing your doctor(s) for an answer, if necessary fire the ones who aren't aggressive in finding the answer. I fired two.
Interesting you mention this, since someone suggested I needed a gall bladder cleanse (never "cleansed" anything before, and sounded scarry). Two thoughts . . . one, could the bug I caught have damaged my gall bladder, kidneys, or something else, and two, if not, then why am I struggling so much now if I didn't before?
skif... hi fellow washingtonian. I had a horrible stomach bug last year about this time. It was horrible. I will tell ya that stomach symptoms can often feel like palpitations. Sometimes these funny feelings can lead to anxiety, and anxiety does all kinds of crazy things to your heart. My stomach virus just zapped my gut, and I wound up with chronic pancreatitis and gastroparesis (paralzyed stomach). You might add some yogurt, culturelle or lactobacillus to your diet. You can get culterelle/lactobacillus at any health store. Good luck to you. P.S. they have wonderful gastric specialist at Virginia Mason in Seattle.
