Achalasia/GERD/Barretts- Any suggestions?
Hello there everybody- I am reaching out for some suggestions- Here is my background and it is quite long- at age 4 I was diagnosed with achalasia- I underwent open heller myotomy to no avail- I then came down with GERD and had an open nissen fundoplication and that also didn't work! I have been on nexium for over 13 years and have now been switched over to zegerid due to the long term effects of nexium. Neither of these medications control my reflux- I have been on every medication on the market- none have worked. I have undergone diet changes, sleep changes, everything. The option that I have left is to have my esophagus removed, the problem with this is my age- I am only 25 years old! My long term prognosis is scary with this surgery, yet the cells in my esophagus are changing constantly. I go in for regular endoscopy's and have seen many specialists due to the doctors simply don't know what to do with me. Medication is not controlling it, yet I have been told by numerous doctors- I live in Seattle and am available to many specialists, that my esophagus simply can't take another surgery- only to remove it. Any ideas out there of what I should do- I am thinking of traveling and seeing specialists across the country- so whatever advice one has, please let me know. Thank you very much
