Another Test...How Bad is the Oral Contrast for CT Scan?
Even though the doc thinks it's all in my head he's gone an ordered a CT scan. I have to drink an "oral contrast" beforehand. I'm picking it up at the imaging center Saturday for my Wed. CT scan. I'm assuming it's barium.

So, how much am I gonna drink and is it nasty? I'm assuming I'll drink a lot and yep, it'll be gross. Just curious what I'm in for though, and would love to know how bad it is! Any side effects? Nausea, diarrhea?

I'm so sick of tests.

They handed me my large styrofoam cup when I signed in for the scan and had me wait there an hour as I drank it. Lucky you get it beforehand. The cup was pretty heavy and I think strawberry flavor. I've had a CT scan before and it was a different flavor... doesn't matter, still pretty gross. I was able to do it in the time allowed and I don't think I'm one that could do that. It's pretty thick and while drinking not too bad, but after you swallow there is an after taste that always made me make a face. I'm sure it was attractive watching me drink it.

I had some weird stools later, but no other after affects.

CT scan is one of the easier tests.
