| Iron defiency and tests
Hi.
I'm usually on other boards, but thought maybe somebody here might have some knowledge of what's going on with me.
I had chemo/radiation and as of early December, am cancer-free (yay!).
My iron levels are at "30" and my onc wants to see them around "50."
I've been taking iron supplements, which are no fun, due to the constipation....so, I take Senekot S for that.
Anyway---he's referring me to a Gastroenterology Specialist for a consultation.
My chemo nurse today, told me they might want to find out if I have any "internal bleeding," and need to rule that out.
Apparently, polyps or maybe a bleeding ulcer, could be making my iron levels lower than they should be.
I'm trying hard not to fret---I've been through the mill the last year and was hoping I was done with tests for awhile---to no avail.
Anyone know anything about iron defiency?
I probably will have to have exploratory tests under anesthesia.
They mentioned colonoscopy. I hear the prep is worse than the procedure.
Thanks for any info.
