Have the doctors overlooked H-pylori?
Recently my girlfriend was told she tested for H-Pylori. They put her on that Prevpak two week treatment. I had told her I heard that that was something communicable to which she thought I didn't know what I was talking about. After doing more reading on the subject I was right, it certainly is - especially thru saliva.
This leads me to something that happened to me nearly 3 years ago and to this day I haven't gotten any answers. I was up in Seattle on a new restaurant opening for my company when I proceeded to get very ill on about the 9th day. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I was running a fever, my armpits swelled up, my body ached, and I developed a massive bacterial infection around the gumline of my bottom-left wisdom tooth. On one of the most terrible nights, my stool actually came out pitch black which really frightened me. I tried to tough it out and work thru it, but after 4 days or so I decided it would be best I checked myself into the hospital.
The doctor at this hospital didn't do any major testing, just listened to me, examined my mouth, and gave me some Penicillin 500V tablets. He told me to take them for a few weeks and get plenty of rest. I flew back home about a week later and proceeded to rest up for the next two weeks. The infection and other symptoms went away, but a couple weeks later I started feeling bloated a lot and burped quite a bit. I no longer had the bottom-less pit of a stomach that I used to have, now I could barely eat as much because I felt so bloated, constipated all the time. My stools even changed. I must've gone back and forth between diahrea and constipation before my system finally settled on constipation all the time. When I do go, the stool looks nothing like it usedf to. It's always yellow and very unsolid-like.
I should note that ever since that after the bloating/burping/constipated symptoms, many others proceeded to follow, almost like wave after wave of very generalized symptoms......and this has gone on for nearly 3 years. I've investigated the Thyroid/Adrenal route and have felt like my situation most mirrored them. At one point I literally thought I was going crazy from all the symptoms to be quite honest. I've seen about 7 doctors and nobody can give me an answer. Although this last one I saw (referred to me by a well known hormonal specialist) decided to run a whole new slew of panels that other doctors never did ......she referred me to a sleep specialist, a mood-disorder specialist, is having a stool panel run (which I haven't paid for yet because it's expensive), a CBC which I submitted over 14 vials of blood for, and a saliva panel. She feels like I was onto something, but that we're going to have to start "digging" to figure out what's going on.
I remember the first doctor I went to said he tested me for H-Pylori and said it was negative. I guess my question is, could he have gotten a false negative or not done the proper testing? I can say without a doubt that this all seemed to have started after getting that infection up in Seattle. Is it possible for a bacterial infection (perhaps H-pylori) to linger and start wreaking havoc like I've exlpained?
I should note that I had mono (epstein barr virus) back in 2000.
