Gastritis(sp?)

I posted on here months ago around dec-jan about a constant feeling of nausea(no vomiting, but at times I would gag).

That lasted for a few months, and I went to the doctor multiple times, thought I had a sinus infection and put me on antibiotics, which in the end I felt that was not it as I had felt the same way even after the antibiotics. Blood work was done(4 tests testing everything from diabetes to thyroid, to everything) all cam back normal. The blood was taken back in jan.

Was doing well for a while but some days I would just feel horrible as described above. Went back to the doctor around march 4th, and was told it possibly could be gastritis(since I noticed when I would drink caffine I would feel horrible the next day) and they felt that since I had the flu back at the end of Nov. that the flu was the real trigger to start this whole thing and because I wasn't taking care of myself at the time I got the flu(2-3 sodas a day, with 1-2 cups of coffee, and usually only eating once a day), and was told to go on prilosec otc for a month and see if that helped. I think it did but towards the end of the month when I was finnishing up the month long prilosec thing, I felt rather bad again.

Up till now I haven't felt too bad, some random days I'll feel a slight bought of nausea, no vomiting and not even gagging but that feeling is there. Sometimes I'll also get heartburn, but down between the ribs right above the stomach. I totally cut off the caffine and only drink caffine free sodas(sprite, sierra mist, and even the caffine free coke and pepsi), no coffee, and lay off spicy foods as well.

So is all this really gastritis, or something more? Should I go back to the doctor again?

Re: Gastritis(sp?)

What tests have you had done (besides blood)? Like Endoscopy, Ultrasound, etc? It's hard to diagnose anything without ruling out a lot of other stuff via those tests.

If it's your gallbladder or GERD you can helpyourself by following a strict diet. Find some foods that don't seem to trigger problems and stick with them for a bit, then introduce stuff back in slowly. If you search major sites Gallbladder Diet the first few links will have good info for that.

Any other symptoms? Blood Pressure normal? Stool / movements Normal? Any unusual Pains? Etc?

Good luck.

Re: Gastritis(sp?)

After having my gallbladder out at the very end of January, I continued to experience nausea, vomiting, and stomach pains very frequently, diaherrea too. I contacted the doctor who preformed my surgery and he suggested we do a upper GI and a colonoscophy to ensure everything was okay. My upper GI procedure determined I had gastritis, a hiatus hernia, and bile in my antrum and body of my stomach. He said the gastritis was caused from the inflammation in my stomach that must have been present because of my gallbladder attacks and eventual gallbladder surgery. He prescribed me "Carafate" for the bile and gastritis. I took it for a while and it helped a whole lot but then it caused me to have chest pains...don't know if it was actually the medicine that caused it or from something else. I was ordered to stop the medicine and just take Prilosec once a day and it's not helping me much. I'm actually going tomorrow for a gastric emptying procedure since I'm still having frequent nausea and vomiting. It is a check to see if my stomach is digesting my food in the time that it is supposed to. Not sure if any of this helps but I hope it might.

I've only had the blood work done, and nothing else has been requested as far as tests go.

Those are really the only symptoms I have. My blood pressure is normal, bowel movements are normal---stool is usually a brown/light brown color never is diharrea except once in a great while, probably from something that really just didn't agree with my stomach in general. The only pains I have are the ones I did mention like right at the bottom of inbetween the ribs. Though at times I will get a tingling kind of pain on my mid back left side section and usually that's after I sit for a long period of time (hour or more, and only sometimes I'll get that pain).

On the other hand, at times I do think the nausea may come from my allergies/sinuses as sometimes I'll feel like my throat is real dry/like closing up/or something dry is stuck inside my throat, and at other times after I eat, I feel like there is excess saliva that I constantly feel the need to swallow, either that or always clear my throat after eating as if there is flem or something in my throat.

I don't know if this helps anything with what I stated in my first post, but thought I would throw those things out there as well.

CTaylor, I think your case is more serious than mine is as I don't have any bouts of constant vomitting, and/or diharrea, just mainly the feeling of nausea.

Thanks!

Re: Gastritis(sp?)

Nausea is caused by problems with the pneumogastric nerve -- that is produced by spasmodic irritation in the stomach or chest areas.

There is a very good homeopathic remedy that just may help and is available at most health food stores--- Ipecauanha 6X potency -- taken as needed.

It is certainly worth a try.
