I keep getting more and more sick and I don't know why! Please help!

Everything started at least a couple years ago while I was taking Calculus based Physics at my local university. I started waking up nauseous, which at the time I attributed to stress. The semester ended, but the nausea kept getting worse. I started looking for what might cause morning sickness in men, but didn't decide to see a specialist until after I started having anal bleeding.

The doctor prescribed Nexium for the nausea, and I had a colonoscopy a few weeks later. The Nexium seemed to improve the the nausea over time, and the colonoscopy turned up nothing more than a couple polyps that were removed. The doctor couldn't find any source for the bleeding, so he diagnosed it as hemorrhoids. I never went to that doctor again, because it costs $400 just to talk to him in his office for a few minutes!

The bleeding had stopped and everything was getting better until one afternoon when I had a footlong Subway sandwich. I was up all night with vomiting and diarrhea. I finally got over it, but then new symptoms started showing up The first and most noticeable of these symptoms was intense heartburn, which I'd never had before. I continued to take the Nexium and eventually got it under control.

When I turned 25 a few months ago, I was dropped from my parents insurance. I was faced with a horrible decision in which I had to choose between my health coverage and my education. Since I have only a year left before I graduate with my bachelors degree in Biology, I chose the latter. I replaced the Nexium with Prilosec, which I've been told is close to the same thing, because I could no long afford my prescription medication.

The nausea has returned, and is worse than ever. Instead of just morning sickness, I am now feeling nauseous every time I eat. Furthermore, I now have new symptoms to worry about. My stools have become very sticky, and are often a greenish to black in color. My stools are very messy and I can't get clean with toilet paper alone. It's gotten to the point that I have to take a shower every time I use the restroom!

So that's my story. I have no doctor, no insurance, no money, and no explanation for my continued downward spiral. What could be causing all these symptoms? What should I do?

I was in the same boat you are (with no medical coverage and being in school) and now have $15000 + in unpaid medical bills, due to extended vomiting and a two week stay in the hospital and gall bladder removal. Look into adult assistance from social services in your area, or local health department. I would make another appointment to see a GI doctor, and see if they would be willing to work with you.

I'm not sure what's medically going on (maybe gallbladder?).

But I remember when I was uninsured and in school...

The local county/state hospital had a sliding-scale fee program for the poor and uninsured. Often times, I paid nothing for services.

Check out your county hospital. But you really need to do something. Your body won't let you not do something (take it from me ).

Good luck.

Re: I keep getting more and more sick and I don't know why! Please help!

I had my gallbladder removed in january but i the only part of your symptoms i had was vomiting a lot and i had bad diaherea but besides that none. i actually kept getting sicker after my gallbladder surgery and today i was diagnosed with a digestive problem known as Gastroparesis. It's when your stomach doesn't digest your food and therefore you can't keep anything down. I had morning sickness almost like i was pregnant, although i knew i wasn't..and at night was really bad too. I have bad diahherea too and it seems like i have to wipe a bunch to get clean to lol (kinda embarassing) sorry. but maybe you should check into those symptoms? but i wouldn't keep going on sick cuz it will be hard for you to perform well and concentrate in school i'm only 18 and it my first year of college and i know that it hurt my school work being sick constantly. hope this helps.

Check the library for a book called The Hundred Year Lie by Randall Fitzgerald.
