gastroenteritis, advice please?

hello all, i'm new here and have a question about stomach flu. i've been experiencing symptoms for a day or two (watery stools, and i vomited once), and then yesterday i was feeling much better. this afternoon, however, i had watery stool again and began to feel dizzy. i've been drinking gatorade, and today have started to drink much more because now i am worried about dehydration. i've been starting to feel somewhat better after the gatorade, but i'm still worried.

however, i'm wondering if i should go to the doctor? the big problem here is that i don't have health insurance, so going to the emergency room would be a problem for me financially. i should also add that i haven't eaten very much in the past couple days too. would that be contributing to the dizziness? would continuing to replenish my electrolytes through drinking a lot of gatorade help?

Re: gastroenteritis, advice please?

When I'm not feeling well, I can't stomach straight Gatorade. It still has too much sugar. That may be making it more difficult for your stomach to settle. Try mixing it with water, maybe 1/4 Gatorade, 3/4 Water. Drink it slow.

If the infection is lurking in your GI Tract it may take a while to clear out and all that sugar doesn't help things.

Later on you might want to try a few crackers or something bland and see if you can keep that down / inside a while, then slowly work your way up from there. Rice and/or toast, etc.
