h. pylori

i'm pretty sure my daughter and i both have h pylori--horrible symptoms for mos. now. she's had 2 blood tests where we were told they came back negative----and symptoms typical of h pylori, have gotten only worse. we both went for a blood test today. can a blood test come back negative even if you do have h. pylori?

Re: h. pylori

Yes, the blood tests are not 100% accurate (they are fairly accurate, though). What are your symptoms?

Question Re: h. pylori

Our symptoms are pretty much identical......horrible upper abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, relief of symptoms for a few mins after eating, mouth feels coated, frequent, DEEP belching, fatigue, slightly occassional acid reflux. Has anyone had any success with prescription antacids? I know they wouldn't make the h. pylori go away, but maybe (?) they've helped with the pain etc?

Re: h. pylori

Yeah, they do help. I take OTC prilosec. Expensive, though.

Re: h. pylori

You can also do a breath test. I had some minor ulcer caused by h. pylori and was diagnosed by upper endoscopy. My Dr. gave me some Nexium which helped greatly before the triple anti-biotic treatment. After the treatment I have been stomach pain free and h. pylori free for the last 2~3 years.
