Can any one help? I am permenatly constipated to the point where I can not lead a normal life, I feel unwell and cronically tired. I have had all the usual tests which have shown nothing. I eat a high fibre diet exercise regularly and keep off wheat, milk, and red meat. Laxatives give me the urge to go but do not work. Once I am constipated I can not get rid of it , I have not had any relieve for 4 years as I can never completely empty my bowels even though with a high fibre diet I open my bowels (very small amount ) 2/3 times a week. My stomach is permanently bloated, and my stools are always soft, I have tried colonics without sucess, has any one got any ideas?
I think it is ok to stay away from dairy and wheat, but you don't necessarily have to keep off red meat. Anyway, would you mind telling me (us) what your current diet is like, that is, what you eat and drink at each meal in the day? Don't leave out anything. Do you exercise and do you sleep enough?
This is my general daily diet although I do swap the rice for potatoes, and mix the vegtables up broccali , beans etc. I occassionally swap
the chicken for fish and a small amount of red meat. I try to keep off wheat and too much milk.
Alcohol only at week ends 3 pints of beer . It is a very boring diet.
I exercise 4 times per week x3 squash games and 30minutes bike, other wise I sit at a desk all day.
I sleep 7/8 hours a night.

Ok, I am going to suggest a few changes in your diet. You may want to try them out and see how you feel afterwards.
Rising: a glass of lukewarm water
Breakfast: bread or toast (if possible gluten-free; semi-refined flour, don't use wholemeal for the time being) + a little butter or a few nuts + black coffee or tea (a cup)
No other meal until lunch:
Lunch: brown rice (very well-cooked and well-chewed) + vegetables (steamed and raw) + chicken or fish + fruit cereal bar or dark chocolate (optional) + water
17 PM: warm weather: fresh fruit (one kind only, don't mix, maximum 150g: an apple, a pear, grapes, cherries or one or two peaches, etc); cold weather: banana or dried fruit (one kind only, pre-soaked, maximum 100g)
Dinner: Boiled potatoes + chicken or fish or eggs + green veggies (preferably raw) + fruit cereal bar or dark chocolate (optional) + water or herbal tea.
No other meal before bed-time.
Don't eat more than one kilo of food per day. Try to eat more or less 30% carbs, 30% protein, 30% raw veggies (in weight) for each main meal.
Eat at regular times and rest a while before and after each meal.
