Constant stomach pain for almost a week, no vomiting or diahreea

My husband has been having moderate Abdominal pain since Sunday night after a BM. He went to the ER where they did a CT scan and bloodwork (WBC, RBC, electrolytes, etc), in which everything was normal. He was discharged home. He was taking prednisone 10mg TID since that Saturday am (now d/c), so the hospital thought maybe the pain was due to the steroids. However, now being Thursday, he's still in pain. He said the pain was a 10 on Monday, and is now a 6. He has not had diarrhea, nausea or vomiting at all, and no fever.
He says the pain gets more intense after eating. He also used to have Abdominal pain after eating for over a year, and he said the pain is the same as that pain, however, it's constant now, and in the past, it would come and then go away. He said it moves around his abdomen, to the center, left, and right, but predominates on the right side.
All of the 'traditional' GI issues have been ruled out with the CT scan (appendicitis, pancreatitis, gallstones, obstructions, etc even kidney infections and stones as UA was clear). I wonder if anyone out there knows what else this might be. He is currently on Bentyl and Nexium
from the PCP, and GI doc is sending him for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I'm just very concerned that the GI doc will not find anything since the 'traditional' GI issues were ruled out. Any help is appreciated

Re: Constant stomach pain for almost a week, no vomiting or diahreea

I'm in the same position. I don't really have any localized pain. I just have all-over pain. I feel like there is a lot of gas trapped in my stomach, it's always churning, I am awake all night with this stomach stupidity. I just got my blood test done, everything was normal, I don't even know if I am going to go back for an abd ultrasound or CT scan. I doubt it's worth it for me. I had stomach flu for a week (again, no vomiting, no diarrhea) and now it is just lower in my abdomen. It's terrible.

Re: Constant stomach pain for almost a week, no vomiting or diahreea

Hello dreamingdenali and jgross1,

I believe I have an answer to your questions. Two years ago, I had a stomach flu - but with no vomiting or diarrhea and followed by lots of admominal pain, especially after eating. I have done many tests, seen many doctors, and read many papers, and it is SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). SIBO can ONLY be diagnosed by a hydrogen breath test. It will not show on blood tests, CTs, edoscopy or colonoscopy. Find a doctor who will do this breath test; treatment (western medicine) is usually antibiotics, but there are alternatives like grapefruit seed extract with L-glutamine powder. A diet without sugars also helps very much. I have heard Chinese herbal medicine and acupunture has great success, too. Do send me a message if you have any more questions concerning this...and I hope both of you feel better really soon.

Re: Constant stomach pain for almost a week, no vomiting or diahreea

I have also had recurring pain in my stomach in the past years. A doctor once told me I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which I probably do, but that was not my main problem). My previous (and late) husband finally insisted that he send me to a specialist, who, right off the bat, told me I had a hernia. Since then, I have had 8 hernias, the last time was 3 at one time. If you can lie on your back and raise your head, or your legs, preferably (as in exercising), and your stomach develops a hard pouch that sticks out, that could be your problem and might be worth checking out. When I did that, I looked like I was pregnant and the baby was balling up. The last surgery I had was about three to five years ago. They did what they called a Rivas Stoppa Repair, where they basically redid my whole abdominal wall, from one side to the other, I guess with extra strong mesh (stronger than what they usually used) in previous surgeries. I haven't been bothered since, thank goodness, since hernias are really very painful. Five of mine were umbilical and the other three were ventral.
