I'm having an upper g.i. endoscopy in a little more than a week and am getting more anxious about the test as time goes on. I've had it before and the g.i. specialist's office made it clear that the scope won't be put in until they are certain that I'm adequately sedated.
So why am I feeling worried about the test? Maybe it's because I'm concerned about what they may find or maybe it won't be as easy to go through as they told me it would. I have a history of stomach problems including IBS, GERD and a hiatal hernia. My gallbladder was removed nearly 4 years ago and since then I've had pains off and on like it was still there.
So they decided to do the test. In the meantime, my IBS seems to be getting better now that I'm eating more yogurt and fiber, so things seem to be slowly getting back to normal in that regard. I've been taking Prilosec but at first it didn't seem to work. Once I found that I was supposed to take it at least a half hour before breakfast did I start taking it correctly and now it feels like it's kicking in.
So I'm feeling better but at the same time I'm nervous about this test. I have a historty of depression and anxiety for which I am not being currently treated by a psych doc. This is because I'm having trouble with my insurance company over the referral. I had to get my Xanax from an ER doc as my primary physician didn't feel comfortable prescribing it for me.
Sorry this is so long. I would appreciate anyone's comments and advice on how to get through this next week before the test. I just want it over with. I think it takes about half an hour unless they need to do a biopsy. I don't know...it's been a long time since the last time I had one.
Try not to worry about the test. I was like you and was so afraid to have it done. I was even crying the day of it. The nurse told me it would be a piece of cake and it was. The meds helped me relax so much. I only remember the doc telling me to open my mouth. I wished i wouldn't have gotten so nervous about it. Everything should be fine and i hope you get good results!
I have had two upper endoscopies and it was no big deal, really I promise. They put me to sleep and I didn't remember a thing. I had no effects from it afterwards whatsoever. I had no throat pain and went home that night and ate dinner with no problems both times. You have nothing to worry about.
