Unhappy HELP!!! Cannot control bowel movements (sometimes)

Ok, this is incredibly embarrassing, but I need to ask....first a little about me.

I am 28 years old, male, healthy, I am not on any medications nor do I take any supplements. My only health issue the last few years has been a kidney stone, other than that I am in fine shape.

Anyway, I have a strange digestive disorder(?)...for the most part I eat and process food normally. Every so often however I will get the urge (suddenly!) to have a bowel movement. This happens maybe once every few weeks. There is no way of predicting when it is going to happen, nor is there any way to control it once it does. I have attempted to log what I eat in relationship in hopes of finding a common cause, but I am not able to track any such cause.

Anyway, once this urge arises the need is imminent. Now normally I can hold the urge and resist for 30 minutes or so in order to find a suitable bathroom, but once every so often I cannot.

Just today while at work I went to a meeting. My commute was about 30 minutes, and about 5 minutes into the commute I knew I was going to have to use the restroom soon. Upon arrival I truly felt I couldnt take a step without having a bowel movement. Sure enough, when I tried to move to enter the office building I had one. I had to call my secretary and let her know something had come up, had to go home, shower, change, and return to the office where i am now writing this.

My concern is that I have no idea what causes this, might it be IBS or somethign similar? I can remember 3 times in the past 10 years when I have ended up having an "accident"...once in high school....once in college...and now this one. Any suggestions?

I have spoken to my doctor who said I could have IBS or some other condition, but with the rarity with which it occurs it is almost impossible for him to diagnose it...

So I am turning to this community in case anyone else has these issues and what steps you might have taken to resolve it.

It isnt a chronic problem, but it rears it's head enough to really be a nuisance and a potential career and relationship killer as well.

Any advice???

Hi, I am now 46 years old you just described me and my symptoms. And you are right it is a relationship killer, i have been dealing with this for 15 years, I have been to a number of specialists, they put me on so many different drugs, it was horrible. sometimes i get a loud rumble in the left side of mt gut, and then i know i must start looking. but that dosnt always happen, sometimes no matter how hard you sqweeze its just not enough. but what i have done is cut down on how much i eat. i used to weigh about 200, now i have been sitting at 160. if i stick to my diet of light eating i go three or more weeks without episode, but not always ; ( for now its the only thing i know. so far for as long as i have dealt with this it seems the hungrier i am the better the bowel movments. if that make sence.

Both of you might learn something by doing a search for a condition called Clostridium difficile. I had it about four years ago and found out what I had from a Colonoscopy when I went to see my Gastro Doc. Good luck.

Hi,

Sounds like you might need doses of probiotic to bring the good bacteria count up and normalize things. I've experimented successfully with between 200 and 400 billion units of a high quality probiotic daily but it has to be an individual thing - the dosage. You might look for products containing the strain Bacillis Subtilus and the product Body Biotics Probiotic and Culturelle. Also get a full screening for Ova and Parasite including Blastocystis and throw in a test for C Dif for good measure. Hope this helps.

The post above you must amount to 2 pages of text.
Did you really think reposting the first post was going to acomplish something?

I agree with one of the members --- Your friendly inestinal bacteria is out of balance and needs to be re-balanced.

Yogurt like Stonefield Farm, Kefir or a good broard spectrum probiotic supplement..
PB-8 by Nutrition Now should work. There are many others on the market but PB-8 is not affected by low stomach acid pH.

I wish you well---Harry
