Dealing with painful gas

I had thought for a long time that my problem was gastritis, but recently I have been trying a product called Charcocaps... Much to my surprise, 5-10 minutes after I took them my fairly sharp stomach pain went away for about an hour. It returned, but it was a complete shock because the usual things I try (tums, maalox, etc) never seem to work. I've been on a PPI for a week, as I have done before, and haven't really noticed that things are better now than before. The pain is usually minimal until after I eat, then it starts up in my stomach... not much belching or flatulence, just stomach pain that lasts for hours and hours. Bowel movements are generally normal.

Anyone had similar experiences? If it really is gas, I'm not sure why the charcocaps wouldn't eliminate the pain once and for all. (I usually take it once symptoms arise, an hour or so after I eat, once symptoms arise). However, if it isn't gas and really is gastritis, why would charcocaps (activated charcoal) help those symptoms while tums do not?

Doctors have run tons of tests, including an endoscopy, and everything is normal, so I'm trying to figure things out by talking to others.
