BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

I found this site by searching for the very same reason. I had my gallbladder removed in 2000 due to gallstones and infected gallbladder. I have had digestive problems for years. Confirmed IBS and living with Tums and Rolaids. Yesterday I had the scope and my throat is STILL killing me...but I got to watch. My esophagus is inflamed and damaged "burned" from the acid reflux and vomiting bile. But the shock was when I saw the inside of my stomach and heard him say it was "gallbladder bile"...I'm thinking ...WHAT?!?!?! I don't even have one....I have had inflamed stomach and pain for several weeks and I'm not sure how to help myself. I feel for your issue...I am thankful to have a kind and 'listening' dr. I was reading about bile stones in the liver...and wondered if the pain could be from that. I work in Taiwan so I am not sure how to "cleanse" my liver or if it would even help. I am a little "gunshy" since I drank apple juice to cleanse my gallbladder and went into the worse gallbladder attack of all time because the stones were too big to pass. It almost feels like I have muscle spasms in the section of my intestines on my right side... ever feel that kind of pain??? I just can't get that picture of the inside of stomach out of my mind and I want that bile "jelly" out of me! Any suggestions or info that could help me make a decision???

You said you don't have a gallbladder anymore so the bile is coming from the liver and it just keeps coming and you have no gallbladder to catch the excess bile. You need Welchol or the powder drink to bind the bile. I get gastritis from all the excess bile in my stomach.

Ive had problems for months since the gallbladder was taken out. Lets hope we get help soon,oh I am on meds and they dont seem to work.

Whats the best way to get rid of the gastritis caused by avingthe gallbladder out and bile reflux? I have it and its very painful,meds don,t help and I get a lot of reflux. That is the worse and it has continued for months. Is the operation the answer? I have heard there is an op that might help.

Right now I don't have answers but I am still searching for them. I see a liver specialist soon and then he will put me with a bile duct doctor. I do pray but I also do lots of meditation, acupuncture, and I eat things that don't produce much acid. I drink water constantly. I hate when I eat and it can half the portion of what most people eat - I get a horrible full feeling and then the nausea will start or the belching. It is such a vicious cycle but I guess I am stuck with this.

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

There is an operation that involves a stint in the bile duct. I think it's related to treatment of sphincter of odi (SOD) disorder. I recall reading about one person who followed a special diet that helped them, I think it was similar to a gallbladder diet (low fat, healthy, no caffeine, etc) and even had to avoid things like drinking 'cold' water but room temperature water was OK. It's been a long time so I'm not sure anymore of the details. Maybe reading what others with SOD have tried will be of help though.

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

I've been reading these boards for months, but this is the first time I've ever joined or posted. Have had digestive problems for years, starting with (my own fault) anorexia nervosa in 1979 at the age of 16. Anyway, last August I became sick with diarrhea in one night. Horribly sick. I went to urgent care after about five days. They said it was the stomach flu and to drink Gatorade. It didn't get better. I could make this very long, but to sum it up, I saw eight doctors and a naturopathic doctor. Nobody had a clue what was wrong. One even put in my chart that it was in my head. Had a colonoscopy, lots of blood work and four sets of stool samples. I asked every one of them if it could be my gallbladder and every one of them said no, until the eighth doctor. She sent me for a Hida Scan and I had a 12% ejection fraction. Had my gallbladder out in January and have been more sick since the surgery than before it. Incapacitating diarrhea and dizziness, nausea, but only have vomited once (green), terribly bitter taste, pain where the gallbladder was and basically the same thing that most of you have written about, including the depression. An endoscopy revealed a hiatal hernia and gastritis. There is no doubt that my gallbladder was bad, but I don't believe it led to the illness that began that night. I had eaten some bacon that was out of date, but was frozen and I thought it would be ok. Stupid move. I never do things like that and I know in my heart that was what did it. I believe that I probably had H. pylori, which cannot be detected through stool samples. I think that my body rid itself of the bacteria, but left me with gastritis. Wish I wouldn't have had my gallbladder out, but can't change it. I take six Welchol tablets a day. Anyway, through a lot of research on the web I found "Bentonite Clay". I would highly recommend all of you Google it. It has been used for thousands of years for healing. The clay absorbs the bile in your stomach. I buy it at a health food store and you can either get liquid or powder. I buy the liquid for the simplicity of it and it doesn't taste bad at all. A very large bottle runs about $20. I was going through a large bottle of Pepto-Bismol every six days, a small bottle of Maalox a week and a lot of Imodium. I'm pretty much off of all of that now, with the Welchol and the Bentonite Clay. I take apple pectin and lactobacillus acidophilus also. My gastroenterologist had put me on a PPI, but through these boards I realize that I do not have acid reflux, but bile reflux so I have stopped it. I believe that healing comes from God and I know that He has heard me and will heal me in His timing. Until then the Welchol and Clay have helped me tremendously.

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

*IF* you develop Barretts esophagus you could have a new proceedure called balloon Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). It is NON SURGICAL!! It offers 'elimination of Barrett's tissue without lingering side effects.'

A drug, PHOTOFRIN(R), is used 'and a special type of laser called an argon dye laser. The drug is injected into a vein and concentrates in abnormal tissue. When exposed to the special laser light, the drug produces a chemical reaction that kills the abnormal cells.'

Also.....if you reduced Chloestyramine/Colestid/Welchol *AND* you have bile pooling in your stomach....that *MIGHT* be the problem. AT LEAST take your prescribed amount, please!! :c}

Brendil..............anorexia nervosa is NOT YOUR FAULT!!
I'm sure you know that. Acceptance of that is the first step in recovery.
May God bless you and be with you in your recovery. :c}

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

Hi, I saw your post and joined because I have been dealng with gallbladder inflammation for weeks now, six, and have jaundice, etc.

Anyway, you need to begin doing liver flushes. I discovered from doing the liver/gallbladder flushes that I passed some stones but also that I had parasites. Anyone haviing gallbladder problems, probably has parasites which are originating in the liver.

The liver/gallbladder flushes will help you eliminate the gallstones. A parasite cleanse will help you eliminate the parasites and get your body back to working normally! After three liver flushes and a parasite cleanse I'm feeling better, but it will take time, months, to get everything under control but it can be done!

Good luck!

Question Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

Hi,
I too, suffer from Bile Reflux after my gallbladder was removed 18 months ago. I don't seem to be getting any better. I have constant burning everywhere. I've tried many things but nothing seems to work.
To Brendil - I don't have diarrhea but I do have the reflux into my throat. I have been told I have excessive bile in my stomach and it feels like it runs all through my intestinal track. I don't know if it really is but it burns all over. I do get some right side pain and pressure also. How long did it take to notice that the Bentonite Clay was working? I have taken some but mabye not enough. I"m afraid to take the Welchol as I don't have diarrhea and I'm afraid I will get constipated.
I'm also afraid to try a liver flush in case it makes things worse. I did not have stones or sludge, just thick bile and slight inflammation. I seem to be afraid a lot
Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
Liz

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

I don't have any knowledge of liver flushes, some of what I've read seems somewhat scary. I noticed a difference in a few days with the clay. I've gotten to where I don't take as much clay now, but initially I started with a tablespoon in about four ounces of water around 10:00 am and then a tablespoon straight, without water, around 7:00 or 8:00 pm. You aren't supposed to take it around any medications because it can impact the effectiveness of the medication. I notice that when the pain in the right side is worse, the sickness is worse. The thing that helps me the most with the burning is Tums Fruit Smoothies with Calcium. They pretty much immediately stop the burning. I didn't have any stones either and like you, I am afraid a lot also. At least you can count your blessings that you don't have diarrhea with this. You might check on the Questrin or Welchol with your gastroenterologist and then maybe take Metamucil with it. I've bought the Metamucil, but have been too scared to take it. I know all of these boards say that it is a must, but with diarrhea I am just so apprehensive.

Thank you so much for replying! Just one quick question. When you say took 1 Tbls, do you mean dry and then mixed in water or was it already hydrated?

I buy it in liquid form at the health food store and then mix it with water in the morning and take it straight in the evening. You want to make sure to read about it and be informed. If you don't have diarrhea, I think it can cause constipation.

Re: BILE in my stomach and BILE reflux! HELP Needed. please!!

I was a bit better until recently though still had the pain inside my stomach. I was eating better, even had a Chinese meal with my husband in a restaurant. However in the past 3 or 4 days Ive had problems again. It stated with the bloating and I had some Yakult. This was a big mistake as my Colon under my ribs started cramping and hurting,more bloating and pain the next day. I also felt very tense. Dont get tense it makes it worse I know that. Anyway the next day I didnt feel very well and was sick. I got terrible tensing pain as if my Oesophagus had gone into spasm. It was agony like a heart attack. I had to have paramedics who gave me Enternox for the pain,consequently they took me to A and E where they just gave me painkillers. I was sick again but was sent home in pain. It was still bad hours later and I had to ring the doc who told me to take codeine. It did ease but the next day Im still in some pain but not as bad. Im fed up of stomach pain which can be sore,tight or stabbing. My doc said that sometimes the nerves can get damaged after gallbladder removal and can take up to a year to regrow. They only grow about 1mm a week,great eh? That means its proberly the bile getting into the stomach upsetting it. I dont know what to do. I have been told it will get better though it doesnt seem to. Whats other peoples experiences? Im on antibiotics at the moment for a urine infection. What medicines have people tried? had success with?
