Severe Right Abdominal Pain That Comes and goes close to hip area

This has been going on for about 5 months now. Started as a dull pain on the lower right side near hip after eating lots of fiber for one month. I then ended up with constipation. A month later I ended up in the ER very sick with bloody diarrhea, brown urine and severe pain. They did a cat scan and it showed inflammation in my intestine. They said I had colitis and gave me Flagyl and Cipro. I was sent home to recover. I didn't feel better until 3 weeks later. The pain would still come and go on my lower right side but not as bad. Since the beginning of last month it has been back again. Very bad lower right sided pain that comes and goes throughout the day. The pain goes away if I lay down??? Seems worse before my period and worse with movement and constipation. I have not noticed more blood in my stool and my bowel movements are always sluggish. Does this sound like colitis to you are something else? Does anyone else have these symptoms? When the pain comes it feels like it could take my breath away.

Re: Severe Right Abdominal Pain That Comes and goes close to hip area

Did the people at the ER refer you to a gastroenterologist? What do you eat?, drink? what is your activity level? I suspect sometimes when a person becomes constipated it does not allow a place for gas to escape well maybe creating painful pockets. Any time there is blood of course a specialist aught to be consulted in my opinion. It could be several things of course and only a someone who does proper tests can really be able to see these. I can tell you what I like to do with a heating pad but that doesn't mean its right for you. A relative of mine recently had a twisted bowel after surgery. For a few days we seriously wondered if he would make it since he is older. But how is anyone supposed to know unless someone takes a peek?

Re: Severe Right Abdominal Pain That Comes and goes close to hip area

I was so groggy because the gave me pain medicine I really couldn't make out much of what they were saying to me. But, they said there was inflammation(colitis) and that my white blood cell count was high so they thought infection maybe. Thats why they gave me antibiotics. They said if I was older they would of hospitalized me but I am young, strong and can recover at home. They gave me some care instructions but never told me to go see a Gastro doc.

I would go to the papers they give you on the instructions and try to read them very carefully.
