Question Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

I heard about Active Manuka Honey through this site!!! I no longer have h.pylori but am curious about trying it since I have delt with the symptoms even following the eradcation of the h.pylori (nausea, indigeston). Was hoping to get some feedback from people who use it

I am currently taking 1 tablespoon of aloe juice (3x daily). As well as probiotics. PPIs didn't help. OTC Zantac helped for a awhile.

The ONLY thing that is helping me is the aloe juice and acupuncture. My acupuncturist wants me to try some herbal treatments (traditional chinese medicine), but I was curious about the Manuka honey because I've heard soooo much about it.

Thanks

Re: Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

Hi
I have had the h-pylori, currently waiting on results to see if it is clear. I am taking
manuka honey along with DGL licourice and probiotics. I still have nausea but it is a lot milder now. It will be intersting to see if the h-p is still there. They advise to use the highest strenght, I have 25, but it is very expensive, I have also used 12 but think you really need a level over 16 to be effective, interesting to heatr others opinions. I feel it does help but maybe it is more the fact i feel i am doing something to help ease symptoms, I will try anything. What is your nausea like and how long do you think it will last after treatment??

I used it when I had a sore throat due to acid reflux and it healed my sore throat.

I've not noticed much benefit with my stomach issues yet though, unless I need a stronger type. The one I used was a 10 strength I think.

Regardless though, it tastes good, the health benefits are a bonus!

I have used Aloe and raw honey and found both soothing to my throat but it did not help with the heartburn. The only thing that truly has helped reduce my episodes of heartburn has been cutting back on carbs. The fewer carbs the less heartburn. All the remedies like aloe and honey help to coat and soothe irritated tissues. The ultimate goal is to find natural ways, besides medication, to help the stomach produce less acid so the excess acid is not refluxed or does not back up.

You will read here that some people argue we need more acid and advocate using betaine hydrochloride to help stimulate the stomach to produce acid. I tried it once and thought I was going to die.

Maybe different strokes for different folks

Rose

I did not use Manuka honey. I used raw honey from a health food store.

Re: Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

Hi Newbe

My nausea is milder now that the h.pylori is gone. However I still experience symptoms but in a milder form. Sometimes I think that I still may have gastritis...because my stomach is much more sensitive now than prior to the h.pylori. I just had an ultrasound done....and see my doctor on the 16th to hear the results.

I honestly feel that the PPIs made ME feel worse....as well as the Zantac. So I'm very happy that I found this forum which made me realize that there are alot of natural alternatives instead of medication.

I found out in December that the h.pylori is gone (and I finished treatment on Oct 31st)....and it is now Feb 5th and I still am not back to normal.

With acupuncture and aloe juice I seem to be doing much better!! And I am very interested in other alternative methods as well

Re: Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

Hi sweetlife
your symptoms seem very similar to mine.Im awaiting the results from my breath test but my doctors says that the h-pyloris should be gone. Im still getting nausea but like you it is very mild...yesterday i had none at all but i can feel it this morning, just a little. Doctor says i shouldnt be having these symptoms still so has put me forward for a endescope, however waiting list in UK is 3 months. I am considering going to a specialist next week via a private appointment to get his take on it. Im wondering do I need a stomach emptying procedure to see if food is lingering. I go to the toilet on a regular basis so never have constipation etc. I also find if i eat something regularily it will ease the nausea....do you find this?? Like you i Just want to be back to normal and not have to think about it.

[QUOTE=Sweetlife12;4677962]Hi Newbe
I just had an ultrasound done....and see my doctor on the 16th to hear the results.

BTW, i had an ultrasound also of my gallbladder, pancreas, liver etc (is that the same one?) but got results there and then. They had them with my doctor too the next morning. Suppose different countries have different procedures.

Re: Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

Hi Newbe

Yes I guess different procedures for different countries because I had the endoscopy right after the positive blood test for h.pylori. The endoscopy showed that I had an active h.pylori infection....gastritis (caused by the h.pylori)......acid reflux.....and candida on esophagus. Only after that was I then treated for h.pylori.

My gastroenterologist also said that I SHOULD NOT be experiencing symptoms after the eradication of h.pylori, however after reading many forums it seems that is not the case for many people. MANY people still experience symptoms. For me, I think the bacteria + antibiotics + gastritis has left my stomach very sensitive.

And like you if I go too long without eating I notice the nausea much more....and feel better after eating. And symptoms are much worse in the morning and afternoon. But since I STOPPED taking the acid reducer and started drinking aloe that helps a lot.

My ultrasound looked at the whole abdomen....stomach....gallbladder....liv er....bladder....etc....For me, my appointment was scheduled a few weeks after, so thats why it is taking sooo long to hear the results. But I honestly think it all goes back to the h.pylori and the gastritis that it caused.

Re: Any thoughts on Active Manuka honey??

Hi Sweetlife12
I have booked a private consultation with a specialist next thursday so hoping that may speed up some answers for me. My nausea was quite bad on sunday and early part of monday but since has subsided to being mild again but still there. It is just weird that i dont get any other symptoms though I have noticed when i drink I will burp almost instantly, it doesnt hurt though, is that what they mean by reflux?

I am considering stopping the PPI too, dont think it does anything anyway. I will do that from this evening as im due to take when at night too. I am going to try the aloe too but think I will wait to after the specialist appointment as I want to get a true feel of symptoms. I am still taking mastic, manuka, probiotic and magnesium too. Im still waiting on my breath test results to ensure h-pylori has gone, I hope to have that by end of this week.

I am hoping this is just the backlash of h-pylori but when my nausea is bad I cant help my mind wondering! One of my bloods were higher then normal - amylese, only slightly and doctor wasnt over concerned but when i read up on it it is normally due to pancreatic problems! yikes. I keep telling myself that mine wasnt too off the radar and I only have nausea, no other symptoms. Is nausea your only symptom or do you get heartburn too??
Anyway onwards and upwards! have a good day speak soon
