Is it possible for gastroenteritis to relapse?
I've had an awfully weird case of it. I woke up early Friday morning with stomach cramps and cold sweats that lasted a couple of hours. All day Friday I was fine, so I was convinced it was something I ate and even threw away the almost new package of turkey I thought was the culprit. Then on Saturday morning I woke up feeling ill. I threw up all morning and was down the rest of the day with aches and pains general fatigue. That day my five year old and my 16 month old also got the virus and threw up a couple of times. Then all day Sunday all of us were fine, but my oldest son and husband got the virus on Sunday night. Monday I was fine and so was my son, though my husband stayed in bed most of the day. Then I woke up last night with pretty bad nausea, though I never threw up. This morning I still have nausea and that terrible feeling of having something in your stomach that doesn't belong there, though I still haven't thrown up. And now I have diarrhea that's sending me to the toilet every 20 minutes or so. What the heck?
If I'd had all these symptoms at the same time or even in succession I wouldn't find it that strange. But what's with the days in between where I felt pretty normal? Maybe it's because I wasn't really eating a whole lot on those days, and when I went back to a relatively normal diet my stomach couldn't take it and I relapsed?
At this point I'm thinking I should just stop eating for a week. Should do wonders for my weight loss plan.
Is this kind of illness pattern normal for gastroenteritis? Is it common to relapse? I'm kind of worried this might be another virus altogether, and I'm really not sure I can handle another pandemic in my family of six!!
