| Multiple abdominal surgeries - Help!
In November 2009 I had a laparotomy for a strangulated hernia and bowel obstruction. The hernia repair was done and about 10 cm of my small intestine was removed. The hernia repair failed and I started having gut problems again - constipation/diarrhea (I also have IBS), etc.
In October of this year I had another emergency surgery. They thought I had a perforated bowel, but once they got in they didn't see one. There were air bubbles in the mesentery. They did, however, find an incarcerated hernia which was fixed, adhesions from previous surgeries were removed, and my appendix was taken out since they were in there anyway.
Today I took a close look at my stomach - probably for the first time since my operation two months ago - and found that the left side of my stomach, which has always been larger than the other - is quite big. It almost looks like I've got my hernia back and the repair failed again.
I'm scared. I'm overweight and have been desperately trying to lose pounds but it's not easy, especially when one feels sick much of the time. My IBS has been kicking into high gear too. What is the likelihood of my being able to survive another surgery so soon after having this one?
I am begging someone to please respond to this post. I desperately need answers, and some reason to hope that everything will be ok. I'm trying to get over a nasty ear infection, so it's been one thing after another.
I can't take much more. Someone, please respond! I need advice and don't know what to do!
