I don't know what organ this pain is coming from. Please help to identify.

I'm starting in this forum for several reasons. First, I'm relatively young (medically speaking) at 34 years old, so the chances of something serious are still fairly small for me, considering there is no family history of cancer of degenerative disease, aside from diabetes. Second, I had my gallbladder removed approximately 6 years ago, so I have a slight history with upper digestive problems.

So here's my problem. I have this pain, and it is an acute type of pain located in the upper, left quadrant of my belly. It is not ON the rib cage, but seems to be either underneath it or right below it.

I went to the doctor and he ordered an U/S, but didn't seem too concerned, as he excerted some pressure to the area, and while it did hurt, he did not feel anything abnormal. Also, I don't have any other symptoms - no nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever. It is NOT worse when I eat or don't eat. The other concern, is that this pain often radiates straight through to my back.

As I mentioned before, I had my gallbladder removed, so there can't be deferred pain from that. I just have NO idea what is causing this pain, or what organ it might be coming from.

Any ideas?

I don't know much about IBS, and I would categorize my bowel movements as normal, although I DO have episodes where I will have bowel movements that CANNOT wait, and I know when I feel one coming on that I typically have less than 10 minutes to find a bathroom or I'm in trouble. These episodes, however, typically correlate with eating GREASY foods, and therefore they are predicatable in that sense. Also, these episodes do not exacerbate the pain that I'm referring to.

Sorry if this is so long. I would be MOST grateful if someone could tell me what organ(s) are located where my pain is, or ideas as to what could be causing this pain.

Thanks so much!!

Seabreeze, hi, I'm not sure how much input I can give you but after reading your post I felt I wanted to respond with something anyways.

Do you have any problems with Acid Reflux or GERD? Have you tried taking anything like prilosec OTC? The reason I'm asking and I'm no expert by any means but the pain almost sounds like an ulcer or ulcerative colitis maybe? Have you tried changing over to a bland diet for a while to see if that helps? These are the types of things I would try first and see if it helps. But this is just my opinion I'm no Dr.

Please let us know how you are doing, ok?

thanks

The organ located there is your actual stomach, but usually a stomach pain from ulcer or gastritis will rapidly change after you eat.

Gas can get trapped there. Could that be it?

Re: I don't know what organ this pain is coming from. Please help to identify.

Thank you fo responding. I, too, was thinking this pain is located in my stomach, but am baffled because I don't see a correlation between eating/not eating and the pain. My initial concern is to rule out the pancreas and spleen (and I wasn't sure if the tip of the liver reached that far over, or not. But even with the pancreas, I would imagine there would be other symptoms present related to bowel movements, nausea, vomiting, etc. I don't know much about hernias, does anyone else?

Thanks, again!

Hi,
My Hiatal-Hernia does not cause pain in that area.
I have found that trapped wind/gas can cause pain in that area also I have been diagnosed with Diverticulitis in that same place. I once replyed to someone that Diverticulitis was an older persons complaint but was corrected on that and told not nessesarilly so.
Have you had a Colonoscopy or Endoscopy as that would show what the problem is.
I wish you well and hope you get an answer,

Solofelix.

Re: I don't know what organ this pain is coming from. Please help to identify.

I had these same symptoms almost 15 years ago...my doctor then gave me "pancrease" after a few days my pain was gone...since moving to Texas and having the same symptoms....i have endured several tests with no results, but no one wants to prescribe such a "powerful Enzyme" What I have is obviously(?) inflammation of some organ but which one?...when i bend over I notice the sensation of something "heavier than it should be" located right behind my ribcage on the left side of my upper abdomen. Also every once in awhile there is like a "grabbing" sort of "cramp" right behind my left ribs then it kinda goes toward my left upper(?) back and of course my upper belly is kinda swollen....
Anyone got any ideas?
