Peptic ulcers in children

Hi m my son is 13 years old and has been having difficult swallowing and has lost a lot of weight ...he had an endoscopy a few days ago and they found multiple shallow ulcers on the duodenum ...still waiting on biopsy results ..he is taking Zoton for now ,,,does this mean he has h pylori? Dr says it's the most common cause of duodenum ulcers. I thought ulcers were rare in kids??

Re: Peptic ulcers in children

Ulcers are less common in children, but not unheard-of. The doctor should have done a test to find out if he has H. Pylori. There are several tests out there, and it may take some time to get the results back from the lab.

Zoton is the same thing I take, under a different name. It's pretty good, though it might take a few days to start working.

Keep feeding him small frequent meals, bland foods, no tomato or citrus, low-fat, nothing hot or spicy. Probably also best to avoid soda.

With treatment, most ulcers heal in 4-8 weeks.

Re: Peptic ulcers in children

Hi Jane white, thanks for your reply. Did you have several ulcers or just one and where was it ? My son has several shallow ones on the duodenum and mild gastritis,

Re: Peptic ulcers in children

I had gastritis, never reached the point of ulcer, but it can still be quite painful.
