Unhappy At wits end

Hello i hope someone will be able to help me im at my wits end

ive suffered from stomach problems since 2005 however things have got a lot worse to cut a long story short i had a RTA in 2002 within the following 3 years in 2005 i was diagnosed with IBS due to the medications i was on due to RTA damaged my stomach. ive had a endoscopy performed last month that has come back clear also 15 months prior a barium enema which again came back clear,

in 2003 i was diagnosed with hypertension in which i take 600mg espospartan on 1 of my recent ultrasound scans the docotor informs me i have a fatty liver he also stated the the hypertension and fatty liver are linked and there nothing of concerns all bloods are fine and cholestrol is 5.4

going back 18months ago for no reason my cholestrol shot up from 4.8 to 7.3 where i was put on different statins i had tried several due to different side effects its now 5.4 however after taking the statins i had a constant dull ache on my rightside around the front of my ribcage area the docotor didnt seem too worried at first it was only when i tried other statins and the pain increased he decided for me to stop the tabs in january 2012 i had bloods taken in feb where everything came back normal apart from cholestrol.

ive developed a constant pain in the left lower quadrant i noticed it after the barium enema, where i was told it would settle it could be inflammation, however the syptoms im having are constant dull ache/pains below the left ribcage to the top of my hip, bloating, burping which slighty eases the pain then it returns within seconds, feeling sick, weird taste in mouth, headache, feeling full,

my gp doesnt seem to worried he seems to think its a chronic case of IBS im sort of doubting that its IBS

i lay down on my leftside to ease the pain, theres no blood in stools,i do get mucus on my stools,i used to go to the bathroom about 8 times a day now its twice im also taking domperidone and mebervrine

i also noticed last year that my stomach area was ice cold and it had a redish/purpley blue colour across my stomach

i also have autonomic nerve damage due to the RTA in which ive been diagnosed as having complex regional pain syndromme

any help thoughts would be very appreciated

Re: At wits end

Have you had a Colonoscopy.
With your symptoms Diverticulitis springs to mind as I have been diagnosed with it and had similar symptoms as you.
I once wrote it was an over fiftys complaint but was corrected on that. IBS can also cause the same symptoms.

Re: At wits end

I also have pain in the lower left below the ribs. This started after my gallbladder was taken out. The doctor said it was spasms of the intestine. It is very uncomfortable and happens at various times, not constant. Sometimes i get it after i eat, sometimes on an empty stomach. Dr. gave me meds but you can't drive while taking them and causes dizziness. if i take the meds, I cant go to work!

I know what you mean.
I get the same pain in my leftside, it feels like a blown up baloon sensation as if it wants to pop. So uncomfortable, I get this regularly especially after my evening meal, nothing I take for it really works,

Re: At wits end

Hi,
glad to hear you are sceduled for further investigation.
"What trouble did you have with the previous Endoscopys. I have had 4 and was sedated each time and knew nothing about them. Do you mean you are having a General Anesthetic?..
I have also had the Endoscopy&Colonoscopy done at the same time. Would Never have that done again as I felt the whole Colonoscopy procedure as the sedation was wearing of after the Endoscopy.
I have Diverticulitis, Hiatal-Hernia and IBS and I agree with your Consultant, their symptoms are much alike.
I wish you well,

Solofelix.

Hi Solofelix

It was first and i thought would be my last endoscopy investigation LOL however the only thing they found was the esophogus was is constant spasm they never took a biopsy of the stomach and small bowel as everything looked clear the gastro consultant whom im paying privately wasnt amused as this was perform on our NHS.

when i had the endoscopy the only sedation that was given was the throat spray and that gagging is just not nice at all this is why he wants to put me out due to the spasms in the throat .

with the both procedures im having on tuesday he's suggest a general anaesthetic he says i wont now any thing about it THANK GOD, it should take no more than 2 hours hes going to take several biopsy throughout everypart his equipment go's through he enters and anything that he's not sure about will be sent off for biopsy tests, however he did say by looking at all of the digestive system through this procedure its only then he can rule out Colitis, Diverticulitis, IBS,, Crohns etc etc due to the similaritys

Re: At wits end

Hi jenko,
With three of my Endocopys I had just the sedation. I was given the throat spray with just one. It was a dreadful experience for me. After the IV line was inserted I was wheeled into the treatment room and the nurse asked me to open my mouth. I thought she was going to insert the mouthpiece that the tube goes through. Instead she shot this spray into the back of my throat which I'd never had before. I thought I was going to choke and couldn't get my breath (I'm an Asthmatic) I was so terrified of choking, an awful experience, will never have that again so I fully understand your situation.
I wish you all the best for Tuesday and let us know how things went and what was found.

Solofelix.

Re: At wits end

Hi,
So glad all went well. Wow What a price to pay!!...
Like I said three of mine were no trouble either. The prep is something else...
must say I felt great after being cleaned out.
All mine were done on the NHS where I live and very little waiting time, still what price peace of mind.
Let us know your results when you get them back and all the best to you.
