Saw a Specialist and Still No Diagnosis- Help?
Can someone please try to help me figure out what the heck is wrong with me? I've been to my family doc and a specialist and still no diagnosis.
My background- I am a 23 year old male with no prior digestive issues
Here's the story:
About 3 months ago, I got sick one night with diarrhea, nausea, chills, sweating and what felt like a fever (not actually measured). I figured it was just a virus and I would have to let it pass. Well, it went away the next day and I felt fine for the rest of the week, then all of a sudden that next weekend, I got sick again with the same symptoms. I thought well, it's just bad luck I'm sick two weekends in a row.
Well, it went away and came back again for the next month. It seemed to happen most often on weekends and it is always at night. I thought it could be due to a lot of stress due to work, etc. So I put off seeing the doc.
Well, it continued for 2 months off and on about once per week, so I went to see my family doc. He did a full check up, but wasn't sure what it could be. He put me on Omeprazole to see if that would help. It seemed to make things a little better for a while. My "attacks" were less serious and seemed to actually be going away. Unfortunately, they cam back after about a month after I was in for my visit, so I was sent to a specialist.
I went to see the specialist who did a full check up and then told me he wasn't sure what it could be either because symptoms of the major disorders/ diseases rarely come and go on a weekly basis. He gave me an order for blood work and said that if nothing shows up there, he would recommend an endoscopy/ colonoscopy. He also gave me Bentyl to take whenever I felt an attack coming on. The Bentyl hasn't helped.
I haven't been able to link any specific foods to my "attacks" other than spicy stuff, but at the same time I still get "attacks" even if I don't eat anything spicy. Addtionally, it seems like when I go without eating for 5+ hours then eat something, it tends to trigger it too. They last for a few hours, then I typically feel better.
I can't figure out what it could be and it is really terrible because I basically have to stop whatever I am doing to lie down or have to run to the bathroom.
If anyone has any idea of what it could be I would truly appreciate your help.
