Hi,I have an 11 year old daughter who noticed yesterday that she had some dark maroon or blackish blood in her stool when she went and had a bowel movement. She was very scared and the next time that she went to the bathroom and peed there was a little again which appeared to come from her rectum. At first I thought that maybe she was getting her period for the first time however it seems to be happening just in the last 2 days and only when she has a bowel movement? Is she too young to have an ulcer? She is a BIG worrier and has been worrying lately lots about somethings happening in her life, since she is such a big worrier could she be worrying herself right into the ulcer? Can a stomach ulcer cause bleeding in your stool? Would appreciate any thoughts that anyone might have. Worried Mom!!!

Ulcers aren't caused by stress, that's a myth. They are most commonly caused by an infection called H. Pylori, and, yes, they can happen to children as young as she is, although that's rare.

Still, ulcers usually produce sharp pain in the belly. Often it's just below the ribs on the left side. Brownish blood on the toilet paper, or even a little bit in the bowl, could easily be the beginning of her first period.
