| Infrequent bowel movements for years post surgery
My sister had knee surgery (her second knee) back around 2005 or so and ever since that time she has very infrequent bowel movements. She says that after several days without one, she starts to feel bloated and gets somewhat of a stomach ache and ends up taking over the counter colon health medication that usually does the job in 3 to 12+ hours. She says that once the urge hits, it's nearly an emergency to avoid an accident. She think the condition (whatever it is) has something to do with the anesthesia during surgery as it apparently has gone on ever since that time but never before (and not after 2 previous surgeries prior to the one in 2005). She has dealt with it for several years, mainly because I don't think she wants to bring it up to a doctor.
Could this somehow be related to the surgery? And what can be done about it?
