W/C Question? - Disabilities Message Board

On w/c since 2002, had microdisktomy, have drop foot and nerve damage, wear afo on leg as a result of surgery. In dec. of 2003, my ankle gave out and broke both sides of my ankle, now pins and plates on both sides, also still wearing afo. I also have severe anxiety, fibromyalgia, gerd,depression, ibs,and too many things to list. My question is I still am on w/c but I know I will not be able to go back to work, should I file for soc/secruity ? Thanks for any help.

Hi Cookie!

Of course, the sooner the better! w/c doesn't last forever. You will need to get your Drs. on board with you, the more the merrier! This isn't an easy process and it doesn't happen over-nite either. So the sooner you get the ball rolling the better you'll be. By the sounds of it your bases (axis or diagnoses) are covered (check SSDI's website). My spinal column is in the degenerative state in several locations. My wife has been on pins & needles and very protective of what I do. Still I wait patiently for SSDI to rescue us. Just found out a couple of months ago that my condition(s) are hereditary. I only recently was reunited with my birth-mother. I'm 45 now. I'd rather be working!

By the way, my favorite is chocolate chip! lol!

I was the Officer's cook in the U.S. Navy and I used to make Tollhouse cookies in the middle of the Persian Gulf (Iranian conflict). "Home"?-made!!!

Hi Ed,
Thank you for your reply, yes I think all my drs.. will agree with saying I am eligible for disability. I was not sure if I should do it now well I am still getting w/c or wait until they say my time has run out. I dont know that much about w/c been on it for 2 years now but I know no insurance will cover all these pre existing problems I still have, even though I still pay monthly for my b/c b/s insur. but have been using w/c for my problems. I hurt my back at work, they have been good about paying so far but I worry about what will happen a year from now, all my drs. tell me my nerve damage and drop foot is permenent, so I guess my best bet is to apply now because it takes time.

The sooner you start the disability process the better. I've seen it take many years to get an answer from SS.
