Dalesgirl & boxers, tightywhiteys, etc !! :)

Isn't it awful when you absolutely get down to NO underwear?? I know the world doesn't need to know this, but I've been wearing the same bra and two pr of panties since January. I hate to buy them, so I was really down to nothing to start with, then it seemed like when I lost my job and had no money, what I *DID* have fell apart!! Like my mom says, you might be poor but theres no excuse for going dirty, so my little threesome gets washed to death. Since they have been pretty darn sturdy all these months, I guess when I Do get to get some new ones, I'll have to have a little "service" for them and say a few words before I toss them in the trash!!! LOL!!!!
The short while I've been on this board, you have really been a "cheerleader" to me and I want you to know how much I appreciate that. I know the others do to. A kind word is sometimes all anyone needs to get through the day. And don't expect me to go anywhere just 'cause my claim was approved, I plan on hanging around with you bunch of wonderful people. Hope ya don't mind !! Judy

LOL that's pretty funny you mention that. My son wears boxers and I was folding up his laundry the other day and thinking OMG he's had these things forever! I actually just got back from the store from buying him new boxers! LOL

I'm the same way tho, I"m terrible about buying new under thingies

That's too funny but yep.. socks and underwear for the whole family was on the list of things to get with the back pay. Heck our big day was when we could take the kids to McDonald's. Before my husband's accident we went once or twice a week. Except for the few times that grandma took them they went a year without it. I know it sounds silly but it just killed me to tell my kids I didn't have the extra money for a happy meal (although they're bigger and a happy meal doesn't get them far anymore..lol). It all gets better in time... it really does.

Re: Dalesgirl & boxers, tightywhiteys, etc !! :)

It's very hard to be in the situtation many of you, and even myself, have been in or are in. Especially when children are involved. How does one say to their child "sorry mommy/daddy can't buy that (something cheap and trivial) because we don't have the money".

It is hard, very hard. Fortunately for me my son was in his teens when I applied to SSD so he did understand it pretty much. But most children don't. It's so heart breaking when they say "mommy can I have" and you know you can't give that to them.

What I used to do was try to make short trips to free places like parks to take our son fishing, or look for free events in the neighborhood to go to. I know it's hard for some of us to get out but if we at least try I find it does at least help the child forget about wanting things we can't afford. We also used to play video games together or card games, simple things that were free. I actually found in the long run this was one of the most precious things, something money we didn't have, that we couldn't buy. Precious time with our children. I still do that now even though I can afford to buy things. It was something wonderful that came out of a bad situation and something we will continue on even after our youngest moves out.

Family is important, there is no price you can put on that.

hugs to all
