Question has anyone got disability for spinal stenosis and other things

I seen that someone was asking this question for other problems so I will ask for mine-
has anyone ever got disability for
lumbar spinal stenosis
scoliosis
arthritis
severe depression
THANKS
Gran (still waiting for a descision)

Hi Gran,

I suppose there may be someone, somewhere who has been awarded benefits with the diagnosis that you list. But that won't answer the question of whether you or the next person would also been found disabled. Each medical condition can affect people differently. Remember that social security is not so much interested in what's wrong with you but what you are still capable of doing despite it. Factors such as your age, education and past work experience also become a part of the equation.

Re: has anyone got disability for spinal stenosis and other things

I got disability for spinal stenosis, herniated disc, severe sciatica and arthritis. I simply couldn't work anymore because I can't stand long, sit long or even lie down for too long without narcotics. I get sharp pains in low back and now the piriformis muscle is giving me problems causing sever nerve pain down the side of my legs. The prirformis muscle is piching the nerve off going down my leg. The only relief I have gotten is after my manipulative massage therapy and chiro care. I hae spinal stenosis right bad now and will soon have surgery in pittsburg for that. Good luck-oh yeah I have bladder and blwel problems from the low back too. Its no picnic to live this way. it controls everything in my life.

I'm sure hoping to get on it for the SAME symtoms-and may I ask what you take for the pain ??????? are you also in pain 24-7 ??
I can only stand for maybe 5 minutes sometimes if that - and can't sit for long periods, and I sure can't walk very far - everything is so heavy to lift anymore My hip leg back area goes numb when I lay down kinda like prickling sensation...cannot find a comfortable position to slee p in that's whay I'm so tired all the time I guess.......and I do blelieve I have some bladder problems (haven't had that checked out yet though with a DR) I have to p about 50 times a day am up through the night and I also have to wear a pad just incase I cough...or maybe laugh cause out it comes..
sure nice to know someone with the SAME symtoms PLEASE wish me luck on getting approved ....oh and I do work 4 hours a week which is REALLY HARD, but the guy I clean for lets me work at my own pace, in which my boss told disability..
please reply back
((HUGS))

Re: has anyone got disability for spinal stenosis and other things

I was finally approved after 2 1/2 years, for back problems: spinal stenosis, Osteoarthritis, degenarative disc disease and several herniated discs.

Good Luck, I hope you get approved.

Re: has anyone got disability for spinal stenosis and other things

For SSDI or SSI or employer STD/LTD they key is not what the tests show or the diagnosis given, but what symptoms you have that would lead you to be unable to work. If you pulled 100 people off the street and gave them a spinal MRI quite a few would show results of stenosis or bulging disc, but if there are no symptoms that show this as problematic then it's not a disabling condition.

For disability benefits there have to be symptoms that lead to being disabled and active treatment with the right kind of doctors. So a primary care doctor who says a person has stenosis would likely not be enough proof, there would need to be specialist opinion as well. So there has to be symptoms that lead you to be unable to work, depression poorly controlled with medication, etc.
