Hello. Call your local Department of Rehabilitation Services (or Human Services Dept, different states have different names for it). They can help you in to find work or be trained for work suitable for your disabilities.
There is a program called "Ticket to Work" that will help you get back into the work force. It is only available to people receiving disability. I don't understand why they don't offer it to the people who have applied too. You can find more info on this program on the government web site for SSA.
From what I understand you can work, as long as you don't go over a set amount of earnings a month (I believe it is $820 but not positive) You can call your local SSA office and they can let you know. Also, I am not sure how working affects SSI, so you may want to ask them that too.
