so depressed!!!

Hello,
I've been waiting so long for a court date. I applied for SSD in march of 2002 was denied and then appiled and its been almost 2 and a 1/2 years and nothing tried calling my attorney and they never call back. Called SS office and talked to them the women said that it had been sent to the judge for review.
That was 2 months ago. How long does it take to get a hearing or an answer. She looked to see if I was on the docket and then said no. She also told me that they take a break in July and August and she doesnt see me on the docket for September. The pain is getting worse and life really is getting hard financially.
Did anyone else have this problem waiting? I only want an answer how much longer is it going to take is there a limit of time that they have?
Sorry so long just fustrated
Thanks
kathy

Hi Kathy
If I remember right I had waited like 3 months - I kept calling
the social security office to see what was going on..
If I were you I would just keep calling and tell them what you said about the
pain and your finances.. I have no idea as to what and If they have a limited time to get back to you - I was approved in 4 months and I really beleive it depends on what state you are in...???
I wish you the best of luck -

GraN

Re: so depressed!!!

If I were you I would call your lawyer and leave a message that if your call is not returned you are going to fire them!!!! Remember they work for you!!!
I never had a lawyer, I couldn't wait the 12 to 18 months for a hearing so I requested an on the record decision. In my state (Illinois) she said an OTR decision takes about a month. It only took 2 weeks. I had to write a letter stating that I wanted an OTR decision based on what was in my file. Before doing this you should make sure that your file is up to date. Have you been sending in current doctor reports, tests, medications ect? Call your local Hearings office and ask them how long it takes for a On-The-Record decision. If you keep your lawyer tell them that this is what you want to do. Sounds to me like they are just waiting around so they can collect as much from you as possible. (Just my opinion, not a fact) 2 1/2 years is a rediculous amount of time to take to make a decision. Ask the hearings office what files they are working on now. Mine said Sept. and Oct of 2003 (I think it was) that is why I knew it would be a long wait and since my file had just gone to hearings office I knew it was updated.
I pray that you get a letter of "fully favorable" soon. Take an active role in getting disability. I did and I was approved. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
God Bless,
Laura

Re: so depressed!!!

hello kathy, i hope its not to late to reply to your post. i just wanted to let you know that i know how you feel. i have been doing the whole ss thing for about 2 1/2 yrs also. i read on the social security site that you can actually write them a letter to explain your situation with your financial problems and ask if they could put a rush on it. maybe your atty knows about it so they can help you out with that. i remember it saying that they don't want anyone to become homeless due to waiting.
i have already been to the hearing and waiting for that took a while. i would call the ss office and they would tell me that a judge had not even looked at my case yet. i would get so frustrated too. now i am waiting on the appeals council to review my case because the judge ruled unfavorable. i am just going to keep on fighting because i know i am doing the right thing for my kids and i.
good luck kathy and please hang in there.
your friend,
robin
