Feeling like such a fraud! - Disabilities Message Board

Of course, it is the nature of my disease (Multiple Sclerosis) to "come and go"-- it is insane to almost wish for a "bad day" on the day of my Hearing, but it would seem productive in presenting my case if the judge can see the worst! But on my "good days" I DO almost feel normal. I'm still able to drive a car and do my own grocery shopping, so (in light of the more severely disabled that post here) I feel like I'm not doing so poorly. I sometimes feel like pursuing this thing is pointless!

I am waiting for my Hearing date to be set.
Got a letter a month ago regarding the procedures, etc. (It was actually a "cc" from the SSA of a letter they sent to my lawyer.).
So I wait...

A friend of mine (who was put on disability about two years ago) told me it took her 9 months to get the hearing date and 6 months after the approval to receive any money. Is this a common time frame?!

My husband has been waiting almost one year for a hearing date. I have been told it depends on what state you are in as to how backlogged they are. I have no clue how long it takes to get your money after approval as we have not gotten that far yet.

Lisa, you are by no means a fraud. MS is a "sneaky disease" as a friend of mine who has it says. If you have poor quality of life due to a disease and happen to have good days in there it does not mean you do not deserve assistance. I wish you good luck, and from the many posts I have read on all the boards just be honest about your difficulties and tell them what it is like on your worst days since those are the days you need the assistance. I wish you well!

I thought I was having such a great day when I posted that but then it turned out differently. Which is the nature of my experience with MS, so I guess it's not such a fraudulent thing to be claiming -- that I'm disabled.

Lisa each "good day" is a blessing, it does not mean you are not facing a disability. Disabled sounds harsh, so I refer to it as enabled to not be well at that moment.

My poor attempt at humor....lol. Hang in there!
