woking on disability

Hello

Is there anyone who is on social security disability and is working part time. I am on disability and thinking about getting a part time job , maybe 4 hours a day doing some cleaning or some light work to help me out a little bit. But I am so afraid that social security will say if you can work 4 hours a day you are not disabled even for disability benefits and take it away. I'd like to hear from anyone that is in the same situation.

thank you

Re: woking on disability

If you make $860.00 per month (Substantial Gainful Activity) or more, then you are NOT disabled. Part time work under SGA levels can be used as evidence of functionality in making a determination

Re: woking on disability

I would suggest to call Social Security and find out the guidelines for the work incentive program. I see many disabled people working and still recieving benefits. Your disability has a lot to do with whether any type of work would effect your disabilty checks. Everyone's case is different. I would research it very carefully before making my decision. When I called to find out my own particulars regarding the work incentive program I chose not to seek employment. Not because I can't work ..there are days I could do work but because there are more days I can't do anything and I don't want to lose my benefits. My luck is not so good even though my condition has no chance of improvement.

Re: woking on disability

tcracing59, didn't you get a booklet about what to do if you wanted to work full or partime & still collect SSD?

I did. It gives *detailed* instructions of what to do & what not to do, how much you can make & so on.

If you did not receive this booklet, then call your local SS office & ask them to mail you one and/or pick it up yourself if you live near an office.

Re: woking on disability

I forgot to mention that I was born with cerebral palsy and I have worked full time in the past. I asked the neurologist i went to about the cerebral palsy and he said the cerebral palsy itself will never improve, so i dont see how they can take it away unless i work enough for them to consider it substantial gainfull employment.
