How long??? - Disabilities Message Board

Hi all,
Just wanted to know if anyone knows how long it takes once the decision has been made until you get your $$$ or letter. I called to follow up with hearing on Feb. 10,2006, they said the decision has been made but has not been sent to underwritters yet, so how long until they get it completed. I know several people who got a deposit 3-4 weeks before they ever got a notice at all.

I think the amount of time from decision and payment/letter may vary depending on the state you reside. Some states have a big backlog on the underwriters besides the hearing process.
I know several people that once they had their hearing/meeting the money was in the bank before they got their letter. But then again I've talked to some that got the letter and was told of a date that the retro would be deposited and when their actual monthly payments would be start.
I had a review or audit of my account and it was found that I had been under paid for a period of time. Now I was told I would get the amount deposited on a certain date. It actually came the day before I got the letter. I was checking my bank account and found it was deposited.
I would suggest just checking your bank frequently to see if you had a direct deposit made from SS.

It is not uncommon to recieve your back payment prior to getting your approval letter. If you have the number to your local office you can call them and talk to the individual who is handling your case locally and find out the current status and when payment should be expected, they should have a general idea. You could also call their main 800 number and request the same information.
