Does a long wait for hearing decision mean a positive outcome ? - Disabilities Message Board

I had my hearing on Feb 10, 06. I have called many times they told me last week they have made a decision but it has been sent to underwriters. Does this mean a positive decision? If it were a denial would it still need to go thru this process? I'm just so nervous waiting for the answer, not to mention the financial issue we are in. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Did you use a Lawyer? If so call them and ask them, they may actually know the outcome of the hearing itself. I'd hate to get your hopes up if it were a denial but when mine was approved the same thing happened. I actually got my money deposited before I ever got the letter of approval! I had called the bank one day to check my balance and there was a large sum deposited. After asking the bank where it came from they said is was from SS so I called them. They told me yes I was approved and that was my back benefits.

Barbie, thanks for the info, I do have a lawyer, they don't know anymore than I. I have heard that you get your back pay way before the letter.

HI CHARLIE HERE....I don't know what state you'r in
but I can tel you this that alot of people done't know.
in most states if you'r applying for "ssi" the states have
thier own cotracted doctors that make the decisions,
they don't necessarily use you'r own doctors recomendation,
although it comes into play, but I have found in general that
if it taking a long time to get you'r decision it's a good sign.
because if they approve you it takes quite awhile to start
the paper work moving, and you will usualy get a phone call
from them asking you a few generic questions and that is
a real good sign.....I live in washington state and that's the
way it works here and in most western states..gud luck..charlie
