It is true that, as a rule, they will deny you two to three times...I guess to weed out those who aren't desperate. Just be patient, jump through the hoops. After three denials, I employed an attorney....it made everything go alot smoother. They will take a percentage of your award...but SS will pay you retroactively from the time you first applied.
