Post Just finished SSD mental exam

Hello to all;
I just finished the mental exam for Social Security. I have chronic pain and I am suffering from depression. He asked me about 45 minutes worth of questions that were related to my mental condition and my current life.

At the end he told me that his assessment was that I was suffering from depression and chronic pain. He said it should help my case considerably. He was very nice and his questions were on the money.

Now I go through a "physical medicine" exam on Saturday morning. I am not sure what that is.

I am very encouraged by this exam today and got the idea that I could be in good shape. If you are depressed and preoccupied with pain, how can you concentrate on your job?

If you have any input I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tim (Snowfrog)

Hi Snowfrog,
I am extremely interested in applying for Social Security. Can you give me any advice I was told that for mental conditions that the dissability list at SS would instantly deny us unless we can provide proof of the dissability for more than 6 months. I have Chronic back pain in my sacreal plexus and bursitis as well as arthrosis of the L5-S1. My therapist said that I will need therapy for my back for the rest of my life. Now I have been diagnosed with anxiety, agoraphobia, and depression and can hardly handle leaving my front door. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been on disability for over 2 years now and out of work for close to 3 years. I applied for disability based on cluster headaches which cause me to have chronic pain all day every day and depression because I am always in chronic pain. I feel suicidal and can not focus or concentrate on work because of the pain always being there. I am on an antidepressent and an antiphycotic. I was awarded the disability for the depression and not the headaches. Go figure. I was approved in 6 months the first time I ever applied. So good luck you may be on to something good snowfrog!

If you have a condition that will last the rest of your life, that is what SSD is for. I would try. There is nothing that should stop you from applying. I would go to the web page of social security and then read two books ;Disability Workbook by Douglas Smith and How to Get SSI and SSD by Mike Davis.

When you apply be as informative as you can. There are good people on this web site who can help.

I hope it goes well.

i applied for SSD at the beginning of this year for chronic migraines, severe depression, anxiety disorder, and EEG slowing (brain dysfunction). They approved my application on the first try and I didn't have to have any exams. I just had to fill out the papers they sent me in the mail. They said they'll recheck my case in 3 years.

Question

I applied for ssd about a year ago and was denied immediately and a letter arrived shortly after that. I have had several health problems (some undiagnosed)for approximately 4 yrs. My Dr. sad i wouldnt be able to hold a job and i needed to apply for SSD again. My health insurance is going up and up due to frequent hospital stays. I was told to get a lawyer to help me with this problem, but i'm wondering if that is the only way.....Anybody have any suggestions?

Also you need to contact your congressman. Fill out some papers in his office. About how this disability is affecting you and your financial situation or mental health and in our case my husbands application was red flagged. We have a little satellite office where we are and the secretary faxed it to his main office. We have received two letters from him. The first was a progress report on which doctors had not responded to the Social Security Caseworker, so I got on the phone and wanted to know why they had not sent anything, and the second was to inform that my husband was approved so far. Social Security has not sent anything.
